Well good on the Preds for showing they can compete with the big boys. Because I have the attention span of a carrot, are the Preds set on keeping him? Or can they trade him in a year? |

No, the arbitrator makes a decision about what his compensation will be. He is under absolutely no obligation to sign the contract. If he decided to sit out he would have every right to. - snake17
No?
No to what?
I said the arbitrator decides his salary for the next year.
And then you say the same thing.
Any player can sit his contract out.
You are a masterpiece of failure. |

Umm very wrong an RFA can deside not to sign and sit out until he signs a contract he likes however if he doesn't since by December first of that year he sits out the rest of the year and if u think he was entitled to arbitration he wasn't first 5 years of NHL service a team can take him to arbitration after that none - arnpriorguy
We did take him to arbitration last year though, so we wouldn't have been able to again. He, however, had the option to go to arbitration but didn't do it. |

You may want to learn the game a little better before dismissing people as a douche when you are incorrect. But again, it's your dime. - snake17
Even if you are correct (HAHA, can you imagine?) and I don't know what I'm talking about regarding salaries and UFAs and RFAs, none of this has anything to do with hockey, the game that's played on ice (amiright?).
Keep it up. You're my entertainment for the night. |

i'm faulting star players who don't want to lead their teams but only want to ride coattails. |

I have nothing to talk my way out of. I never once said Weber was a UFA. I'm not sure what you are referring to. |

Well we can trade him in a year, just very very unlikely too. Not very smart to match an offer sheet as front-loaded as this one just to turn around and trade him...unfortunately for the rest of the league...Shea is ours |

You have multiple broken arguments and half-truths throughout almost every one of your posts.
But yeah, you have nothing to talk your way out of because you are ignorant and ignorant people don't have a clue they're being ignorant.
Completely understandable.

I volunteered for them so I shouldn't say anything bad. Just long as (frank). Just that it's 5 days a week...seems a little daunting. |

Again, you're the one that said a restricted free agent was not a free agent. I'm not sure I can do worse than that. I'm not ignorant, I'm not stupid, and I'm not a douche. And I've offered no half-truths or broken arguments.
You don't understand how free-agency works in the NHL, but that's cool. Get educated about it; it makes for better discussion.
And I would say signing players to contracts has EVERYTHING to do with the product on the ice.

Have you ever heard of the term arbitration? He didn't have a contract he would have been arbitrated a 1 yeard deal then he'd become an UFA. Unless I am completely wrong that is how I understand the RFA thing. - Efs5030
The Preds took Weber to arbitration last year which means they couldn't do it again this year. Weber could have opted for arbitration this year, but he turned down that option earlier this summer. I'm pretty sure if a deal hadn't been done, he would have played for the qualifying offer the Preds filed back in June.

The arbitrator decides what his compensation will be if he signs a contract with that team. But that doesn't make it a valid contract, it just lays out the parameters for what the contract will be. He can choose to sign it or not.

Also on your point about: "Poile had over a year to get a contract done with Weber and he didn't do it. When you let another GM negotiate your players contracts you get what you get."
I don't want you leaving this forum honestly believing that Poile didn't already try to sign, his captain and one of the best D-man, long term. Shea just wanted to get to RFA and, I think just wanted to see what Suter was going to do once he got to UFA, hence the extended one year contract last year. |

Yeah last year was year 5 after that weber can say no to an arbitrator leaving him and the team to work ok the contract I bet if Philly had not put out on offer sheet he would have sat and waited for the right contract which is his right as RFA in his final year of RFA status |

He probably would have, but various people have indicated that he would have been forced to which is not the case. |
