Trade is next move for the Preds. - JACMAN
Why would we trade after paying the worst part of the contract in the first year... smarten up people. |
|
|
|
If you think I changed my story then you obviously don't know how to read. If Poile had re-signed his own free agent before Weber's contract had expired then we wouldn't be having this discussion and they wouldn't owe his $27 million next year. - snake17
they'd have to owe him $27 mil in a calendar year anyway cuz that's the only contract weber would've signed.
nashville would've offered him that contract eventually...you guys just helped speed up the process. |

Wow ..... talk about akward ... whats it like to be somewhere you wanted to leave last week and know youre there for 14 years . Guess hes got a poop load of cash to help him cope ! - juniorcarp
You folks need to stop listening to agents and rumors, if Weber didn't want to play in Nashville then why even give the Preds a chance to match it....again smarten up people. |

LOL did u really just try to rationalize the greasy offer with grand theft auto...which is a felony?
well poile now has weber under contract for the rest of his life at a fair cap hit thanks to other GMs negotiating weber's contract
that sakic offer sheet was greasy as hell. difference is i'll admit it and you won't. - rangerdanger94
My point was that if you leave yourself exposed then you get stuck with what happens. If you're pro-active about protecting yourself then you don't. If Poile was pro-active about re-signing his player this offer sheet never would have happened.
And if you don't want your team to do everything legally within it's power to put the best team on the ice that it can then I guess we're just different types of fans. |

Exactly. That's what I just said a page ago.
Offer sheet acceptance isn't necessarily about where a player wants to play, it's usually about money. |

Answer the question Lenny!
If someone offer sheets Giroux, will you feel it was greasy?
Be honest Pinochio. - StayTunedMTC
Not in the least. If the Flyers are stupid enough to let their best player hit the market, even the RFA market, then they deserve whatever fate they get. |

exposed to what? to having the best defenseman in the NHL locked up for life? YOU DID NASHVILLE A FAVOR!!!!
and christ for the last time nobody cares that holmgren tried to make his team better. every fan would be thrilled if their GM pulled the same stunt. but at least have the decency to admit it was GREASY. |

Preds are stuck with Weber for a year. That means their on the hook for the $27MM next year. How long till the Preds declare bankruptcy and the league takes over is the only question. - JJBraccili

Congratulations Nashville Predators and their fans, awesome news and more importantly SUCK that Flyers......
I think in a way the Offer Sheet was good, it basically layed out for Nashville what they needed to do to keep Weber, I hope the Fans truely keep behind the franchise and get more fans and keeps evolving into an awesome hockey market. - MikeyOz

WHat is greasy about signing a player that is a free agent? Even if Nashville had the right to match HE HAD NO CONTRACT...what is greasy about that? |

Telling the HockeyBuzz community to smarten up is like telling a dog to stop barking at a squirrel...ain't going to happen.
I can safely say that none of these commentors are filling out their Harvard application as they read the latest nuggets from Eklund. |

Greasy? Why? Holmgren gave Poile deadlines in trade talks. Poile knew that the offer sheet would be coming. |

because he was trying to get him to sign a lower deal. he's not doing his job if he just hands out whatever money players are asking for right away.
poile would've continued to insist that weber get 8 mil per season for X years but if weber was saying hell no then he would've given him the max contract eventually. |

Here, here...these are the same flyers fans 1 day ago saving up to buy a Weber Flyers jersey...
And by the way, congrats to the Rangers on signing Nash.

It's not supposed to effect you really.
I just thought pictures may help you understand a little better because you clearly have a low IQ.

looooooooooooool
the reason it's so greasy is that same reason you guys are saying the sakic offer sheet was greasy.
both offer sheets were structured for the exact same reason yet the NYR one is greasy but PHI one isn't? |

Say this with me...Restricted FREE AGENT. As in NO CONTRACT. Nashville having the right to match in no way changes the fact that he was a free agent. |

Holmgren can't possibly be stupid enough to let Giroux get to RFA status. He has to sign him to a long term deal. Maybe not 14 years but 6 years. |
