Not happening. Vancouver will not get a 1st round pick back from anyone. They will get a prospect and something like a 3rd or 4th and even then they will be forced to take back salary. He will not and can't have Luongo in training camp.

So being a weasel is alright. Say what you will about Lappy but he,s never done anything close to as dirty as that rat Marchant has
- Bieksa#3

That being said, he is still twice the hockey player Lapierre will ever be. I'm sure 95-98% of hockey fans would take Marchand on their team over Lapierre (the other 2-5% being Canuck fans). At least he can back up his smack and antics on the ice. Imagine what could have been with Marchand playing with Sedins.

Marchand is a weasel. That is his role and he does it well all while being productive. He's a more talented, less tough version of Steve Ott. Now Max is a strange player in that his role of chirping and agitating, combined with his size, often lead to him doing a very uninspiring turtle when confronted.

I appreciate a good agitator because 's a part of the game. Vancouver deserves a better player than Lapierre for that role.

Maybe the Lapiere you are used to seeing with the Habs, but the Lapiere in Vancouver is not that player. He led the team in hits last year with 244, PIM with 130 (fighting Majors with 7) and he added a decent dose of offence from the 4th line.
Not saying he is a better player than Marchand, but he has shown greater character in the past year.

Gillis said yesterday on the 1040 .He sees no urgency in moving Luongo. If the right trade does come along he will make it but he is also ok with starting September with Luongo in a Cauck jersey.

I love Lapierres commitment. I know Cherry hates French Canadian players but I am the opposite. He trained last year in MMA and did more fighting than chirping last year. His commitment to lose the bad rep that the Canucks have is noble. Burrows has the same commitment and watch out for Mallet . I see this being a future hard ass line to play against.

- VANTEL

He will never play for the Canucks as long as AV is the coach -- as in: he'll not get a chance to prove himself.

Hopefully the extra weight doesn't make it harder for Max to turtle.

I guess you haven't stayed up late (mommy wouldn't let you?) and actually watched his play as a Canuck.

Marchand is also 5'8" 175 as compared with Max who's 6'2" 210.

...and Marchand is a dirty, cheap-shot artiste as compared to Lapierre as a Canuck.

I came home from China and went almost immediately back to the Middle East, didn't like the job in China. Dirty smelly disgusting living conditions there!

Heading back home tomorrow to Victoria, I'm exhausted. Need some RNR! I'm a member at Gorge Vale, gonna get my money's worth this time home.

Taking the Mrs down to Pebble Beach for two nights, includes a round of golf there, trying to mend some fences with her she's...well how should I put it...unhappy with me at the moment!

Depending on the price I probably wouldn't be willing to give up the 4 1sts to offer sheet Benn.
He's a good player and probably what this team needs, but to abandon the cap strategy now after getting one of the top UFA Dmen to sign within the limits and to turn around and send this type of offer out may leave a bad taste in some of the other guys mouths.
Gillis preaches a lot of this and many have bought in, and some key contributors are up for contract. Burrows may say well Benn is making say 6 million I want 5.5 long term or I'm gone. Higgins may look at his contract and be like I signed for 1.9 and you give this kid 6? I want 4 by 4.
Or Edler may come out and say well if the new core is to be established and the younger movement to begin and the Sedin to eventually fade off, he may just say I wanna be the highest paid player at 6.5 or 7 million. Suter and Weber got 7.5+, well I'm just under their level so I should get paid the same ball park.

If some reason the Stars don't believe Benn to be worth 5 per and wouldn't match at that price sure. But over that and your playing with fire when this is a crucial year for producing on a team scale and an individual scale as well.

Like Bieksa#3 says a few posts up, we were actually discussing this intensely the other day. Ian had a few consecutive blogs of offer sheet candidates and a few of us (myself included) jumped all over the Benn suggestion.

In summary, Benn is 23 and already close to a PPG player. He's versatile and can play at C or W, and he's both a scorer and a playmaker. He's from Victoria so that might help and there's no love lost between the owners. I'm surprised Gillis hasn't already gone for it, the guy's been an RFA for 3 weeks already (which leads me to believe if it were to happen, it would've already happened).

But yeah, seems like Ek picked up a topic from our thread and threw in another Canadian team for good measure.

There is no connection to the market for Nash for the market for Luongo.

* Real Ownership
* No Re-build
* Leadership
* No Deadline

Everyone Troll who wish to see the Canucks suddenly panic and trade Loungo for a 3rd or 4th and a Salary dump... dream on.

And what is this sudden influx of Edmonton and Montreal Trolls.... I guess hope springs eternal in the Summer Months and goes down from there....

I like where your head's at and agree that team harmony is key, but none of those players have produced like Benn at such an early age. I've actually been keeping tabs on this guy somewhat and he's been close to being PPG while being shuffled regularly through all 3 lines (inc PK and PP). This guy is the real deal and he's better than all the forwards you've noted above. 6m per for this guy I think would be ok.

Best case scenario is Gillis gets him up to tour the facilities, talk to some of the guys, and get him to demand a trade to VAN. That would give us a bit more leverage.

Benn would look pretty good on the second line, and in a few more years would look even better on the first line.
