Weber - Flyers
Nash - Rangers
Doan - Penguins?
Ryan - Bruins?

If the above happens, the Sabres might as well blow it up and trade all the vets for prospects & futures that will be ready to contribute when Grigs, Coho and Girgs are capably centering the top 3 lines in a few years.

Of course, Darcy has no vision and no plan so we'll continue to strive for 6th - 8th place and a couple home playoff dates and then watch as Regehr, Vanek, Pominville and Miller all leave as UFA's for nothing when their deals expire.

Thank you for agreeing with my post above...finally someone who isn't clueless

That's basically what I said when I said darcy should deal Ennis if it gets the Sabres Ryan. Wait for the youngsters to develop and include Ryan in the new core. That three year Cup plan is being pushed back.... awhile.

Agreed:

Adam, Hodgson and Gerbe for Ryan and Getzlaf would be a fair trade to me because I don't think Getzlaf is going to sign in Anahem next year.....he wants to be a NY Ranger too! Problem capwise Buffalo would have a hard time fitting this in.

More likely that Buffalo goes in a different and unexpected direction.

Hey Columbus, we will take Dubinsky off your hands for Adam and Brennan?

Hey Nashville get Couterier from Philly and we will give you Adam and Brennan?

Hey Philly, we will help you with your cap room...here's Leino and we will take Briere back for his final 3 years.

You gotta make the playoffs to be able to compete for the Cup...Buffalo will be struggling just to get into the dance
- broadstreet11

And Philly will be struggling to make to the Conference Finals with Bryz in net. Why would Doan want to go there when they are not a contender?

A youth movement is appropriate for the Sabres as the heavyweights of the East are all reloading.

Next year's draft is supposed to be a good one. We already made out like bandits at the 2012 draft.

Vanek, Pominville and Miller could all fetch first rounders for Buffalo and also bring in some prospects.

The best thing that could happen to Buffalo right now is another bad start that leads them to being sellers at the deadline. Even Regehr might be a hot commodity on the trade market in February.

The Sabres could really set themselves up as the Oilers of the East if they play their cards right.

I hope they'd do better than that, seeing as how Gaustad fetched a first last year.

Call it what you want. An astute GM would manage his assets properly. Darcy did that with Gaustad after years of bungling would be UFAs.

Right now he should be guaging the marketplace for Regehr, Miller, Vanek and Pominville in order to be prepared to deal them at the height of their value.

Regehr needs to go by the deadline. The Sabres are very deep organizationally on the blueline and he's exactly the type of player that teams with legit Cup aspirations want to add.

The others can go this year, at the draft or by the following deadline. They should bring back a lot in futures and prospects.

The Sabres aren't in position to exploit any of those situations should they arise.

Each of those teams was vastly superior to Buffalo last year and they all have taken steps to improve.

C'mon Darcyyyy do somethinggggg!

I wasn't trying to be rude or anything...
Just seemed like a crazy amount to me

I really don't get this fascination with Getzlaf though
Real "#1" centers don't have years where they score 11goals
The guy is on a line with TWO studs...
He should score 20 by accident
He's likely to bounce back, no matter where he plays...
But a good season for him is 70points...
Ennis IMO is at least a 60point guy
To me, considering that Ennis is going to make less than HALF of what Getzlaf will his next deal...
I'd rather have Ennis
And there's no way I'd give up Ennis + +

a top line of nash-richards-gaborik is pretty slick but i agree, i don't see either team getting a cup anytime soon, maybe if the flyers get Weber, but that's still a maybe. i liked the rangers setup before this trade and although i don't think they gave up that much in the trade, i think it could hurt team chemistry some.

I think the big thing for the Ryan trade is that Darcy might not want to give up his first. The upcoming draft is suppose to be a really good one from what I heard and that might be the whole key in trying to get Ryan.If it was a second then maybe it would go threw.
