It has a lot to do with how he is used. If you have a guy with a great shot (Vanek) and put him in the areas where he cant use it (down low/ behind the net), then he will not get his oppertunities to score or use that shot to create chances.

Watch videos of Vaneks shot. He has so much force at such a quick release. Being behind the net and down low where he takes that beating does not let him lose that shot.

Also, being in the slot and not down low he takes less of a beating and the injuries go down.

Vanek is not a catch and shoot player, he never has been, im confident he never will be. He has a great shot but he creates his own scoring chances, thats the kind of player he has always been. His shot is also much mopre accurate when he is in motion like when he is heading down the wing and takes a slap shot, he's less accurate from the slot as where Pomminville is much more effective taking that kind of shot. Vanek should be in front and around the net, thats where he is crafty, strong and uses his strengths. That will never change IMO

Used to work 3 buildings over. Had several drinks there. Never ate there though.

So overrated! for sure! they ONLY have the two best players in the league, one of the best Dmen, an elite GT, and a good supporting cast. Oh, and great coaching/mgmt.
I doubt they have any chance at being good.

Thanks! I think Buffalo is taking the proper steps at being a contender. They can't force anyone to sign, but they can build around youth and work on getting a young goaltender in behind Ryan Miller. Its a good, physical team that has made good runs to get in playoffs. I liked all the pickups the Sabres made at draft. Its only a matter of time. Good luck this year!
