The lighting was horrible. The seats looked like they were older than me. My seat was supposed to have cushion in it, but it was so worn it was just fabric that was pretty much fastened to the chair. You could see the parts that reinforced the fabric to the seat through the fabric itself. The fold out chair my friend had to sit on was more comfortable. The paint was chipping off the walls. The first row of seats sits so low that your eye level is even with the top of the boards.

Let's not kid ourselves. If the Aud still existed today, out of town fans would be calling it an outdated dump as well. Nostalgia can only last so long.

Side note on The Open. Did anyone else find it kind of funny that they put the final pairing on the clock yesterday? I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Well, staying in Anaheim isn't gonna help him much in that regards either. They were worse than the Sabres this year.

not necessarily. the Red Sox did a great job of re-working Fenway and keeping it from being a dump. Even Mellon Arena wasnt as bad when it closed

True, but I worked at the aud for the rollerhockey team the last year the aud was open. I remember the arena was going up in the background that summer. I remember everyday before we walked in we would turn around and curse the place. We didnt want it to be finished.

I could live with that.

love those courses in england...can't stand watching golf, but i will take in some of it if it's THE BRITISH OPEN

Mellon arena was barely a step up from where the Islanders play. I was there the night they announced Pittsburgh was getting their new arena and staying in Pittsburgh.

The Aud was already on its way out. The year after the Arena opened, they wanted to use the Aud for some amateur hockey tournament, and they ruled the place unsafe.
