Read and Jake go to Nashville... So that puts the Flyers down Jagr, Jake, Read, and JVR from last years forward depth.

What do you have Shelley playing on the second line this year?

- PLindbergh31

If Read and Voracek go to Nashville, the Flyers have the cap room to add another forward, in addition to Weber.

Flyers fans need to get their head out of the small bubble of only next season and look at the good such a move does for this organizations sustained chance of winning a cup for the next decade.

You are completely full of poop. Not even worth arguing with cause everything you just posted here is a complete fabrication.

Really? Let's put the numbers out. Anyone on here can tell you what poster is the most well versed in the CBA and the Salary Cap.

What does that have to do with anything I said?

I'd move Jake, Meszy, Read, and picks too. For the record.
- LordStanley88

Why move all that when the Flyers have all the power?

Other than Doan, there are no UFAs that excite me. Odds of him landing in Philly are no better than 50/50 and that might be generous. Trading for Ryan opens up more holes and now you are looking at totally different team from last year. I thought the idea was for this group of players to build chemistry and grow together.

I would move 4 1st rounders and tell Nashville to match the offer.

Nashville your up...

I'd pull back Read, and some of the picks. No reason to trade all that.

Semin. Doan. There's a handful of solid FAs out there than can provide solid play.

It is...

Giroux, Schenn, Couturier, Talbot, Weber, Coburn, Schenn, Grossman, Bryz... all here for a minimum of the next 4 seasons. You can probably add Hartnell, Simmonds and Wellwood to that list as well.

Flyers fans are just used to having huge firepower offensively and can't fathem giving any of it up.

By offer sheeting Weber, the plan is obviously to win a Stanley Cup ASAP

That's changed. Crazy thing isn't it. One minute we want this core to grow together and the next blow it up again.

Take our 4 1st rounders or match, peace!

Giving up Jake and Read is VERY far from blowing up the core. Blowing up the core would be moving Giroux, Schenn or Couturier offensively.

And you think Nashville is going to accept just Read and Jake?
- stveshdy

Along with draft picks, yes. Even if it was more than those two, your still not blowing up the core moving forward. The core would be intact and stronger than ever.

Giroux, Schenn, Couturier, Weber, Coburn, Schenn, Bryz... to me that would be the core of the team.

Personally, I think it will be something like Jake and Mez along with a few picks if they end up doing anything along the lines of a compensatory trade.

I was trying to see it from Nashville's prespective but the Flyers dont need to throw out anything at this point. The offer sheet is enough IMO.

I guess a lot is going to depend on HOW bad Homer wants Weber.

I completely understand what your saying and it makes sense. I'm just a believer in not making a trade at this point and letting the OS determine what happens.

Personally, I think Jake is a slam dunk with a d-man (because they clearly need one) for a pick back in return. (if an additional trade goes down)

My preference was to stand pat, maybe add one veteran FA to provide some of what was lost in Jagr.

Now, we're faced with Weber and an offer sheet. It's obvious that the goal was to either get Suter or Parise, and failing that, go whole hog after Weber. If people were willing to give up Voracek, Meszaros and a couple 1sts prior to the offer sheet, that shouldn't change because of the sheet.

Holmgren has really done a masterful job of achieving balance between short-term compete and long-term sustainability, with today's CBA. Here is a potential problem I see.

I think that there will be some adjustment in the RFA and UFA status of players with the new CBA. It won't be what was in the initial proposal, but I'm thinking 1 extra year on vets and 2 on 1st contract. Add with a reduction of cap and it becomes more imperative to have cheaper players. So in the new NHL there will be more emphasis on drafting a team vs. buying a team.

So I think next year's crop of free agents might be gobbled up by their teams, or put into RFA status. That's why I don't want to give up too much young talent in the deal.

I can't understand this mindset. Say it was Read, Voracek, Mez and picks (high end of what I think it would be). You are basically saying that you think those 3 players and picks would have a greater impact on the Flyers over the next 14 years than Shea Weber would....
