I wonder if there is anyway the Flyers can make this a mega-deal and swap Bryzgalov for Rinne. In that instance I would give up Couturier or Schenn...
- PLindbergh31

I was going to suggest that.

Hate to say it, but Rinne looked pretty shaky in the playoffs himself this past spring...and that was behind a good defensive team and system.

He was outplayed by Mike Smith for sure, but so was everyone in the NHL not named Quick for the better part of the last 40+ games.

It's cyclical. A guy like Rinne or Bryzgalov can get red hot and be unbeatable. If it happens in December they win a Vezina. If it happens in Spring, they win a Conn Smythe

I still see no reason why we have to force a 'gratton trade' with Nashville.
- KGBflyers10

They don't, if the Flyers are willing to risk Nashville matching. But the goal here isn't to try to financially ruin the Predators. It's to acquire Shea Weber.

Personally, Weber is the one player I consider enough of a difference-maker to go the extra mile here to make sure Predators do not match the trade. I believe there's a deal to be made south of Couturier or B. Schenn being included.

Consider this, too: A trade package of Voracek, Meszaros and one of MAB/Gus would roughly combine to a similar cap hit to Weber's $7.9 million. Say Voracek gets $3.50 million in his next contract and MAB gets $900,000. Add that to Meszaros' $4.0 million and you get $8.4 million.

In other words, although the Flyers' real dollar spending on Weber will be astronomical, they will actually be saving cap space in the end while Predators would be getting two or three starting lineup players AND getting closer to the cap floor than they would be matching on Weber, without the real-dollar consequences.

I talk to puck. He is friend to Bryz.

And I still dig the Hell out of Bryz. I get him, he's a deep guy with a good sense of humor and a lot of pride. He's going to be motivated this year

my only criticism of Bryz is he does lose focus out there at times. But when he is dialed in, he can swat puck with the best of them. Yes I think he will be motivated, especially if they pick up weber, I think he'll do whatever is asked of him. He's not getting any younger either.

He does, and it is an issue. I defended him last year, and will again, when I feel he's unfairly attacked. But he deserved some blame last year, and to be honest, he accepted a lot of it in interviews.

People hang him when he jokes about it, and not loading a shot gun to blow his head off after a bad night.

I also think that fans' expectations of Flyers goaltender will always hinder the position until they win another Cup. Fans are so distraught over the "issue of goaltending", of constantly comparing the current goaltender to Parent or Lindbergh, that they lose the obvious fact that they'll never be able to replicate Parent. Bryz will never be Parent--no one will ever be Parent. The sooner the fans realize this, the easier it will be for them to understand that not all the blame falls on the goaltender. Even Marty Brodeur and Jonathan Quick give up bad goals--it comes down to preventing the other team from scoring more goals than you by the time the final buzzer sounds.

If the Flyers have to give up a package of Voracek, Meszaros + for Weber, there really isn't any other ways to fill the vacated holes in FA this season. Many people do not realize that. Weber is a great player, but he can't cover up all the holes that will exist if the Flyers have to trade a package of players for him.

Jagr, and JVR are already gone, if the Flyers trade of Voracek, and perhaps another top 9 forward the depth up front will have been severely compromised.

I admit I'm looking at this transaction short term, acquiring a talent like Weber doesn't come along often, so I have to have an open mind to giving up some talent to get him, I think it will disappoint me slightly because I do not think the Flyers have to give up anything other than the picks. Nashville is bluffing imo.

- PLindbergh31

People realize it. They aren't dumb. The best deal is to trade some players and ensure that Weber comes to the Flyers.
