Why would that be? You keep saying the odds are 80/20 that Nashville doesn't match.
Who will be upset if Nashville doesn't match the offer sheet? - PLindbergh31

I think there might be some upset folks around here when this announcement is finally made. - stveshdy
The only way there won't be is of Nash just doesn't match, which seems the least likely |

No. My prediction is Flyers 80% and Nashville 20% as to who will get Weber. That has nothing to do with the offer sheet. Even if the Flyers get Weber some people will be upset by what they have to give up in a trade. |

Neither Desjardins or Kimmo was going to be a Norris finalist. Were they bona fide number one defensemen? Sure. But Howe, Pronger and Weber are Norris guys. - Jsaquella
Exactly. There's a stratosphere of defensemen. The legit Norris Trophy caliber guys are the smallest group, then come a slightly larger group of "All-Star caliber" guys (Rico and Kimmo both fit in that category), then come the above-average group (Coburn and Carle both fit in there for different reasons), next come proven role playing types with one particular skill set that makes them valuable (Grossmann) and finally, minions of marginal NHL D-men.

All depends on what is done to replace the guys traded. |

The only thing that I'll be upset about is the price of the jersey. Probably sell $13M worth in a week |

Bill, I apoligize if I get miss something in your post since I'm also on Penn State watch. The deal you proposed is (Schenn or Couts)+2013 #1 and the flyers get Weber and choice of Flyers 2014 #1 or Preds 2014 #1. I'm strictly talking net return here. - jstross
I'm not proposing that specifically.... just saying that even with Couturier or Schenn, I wouldn't automatically say no deal. Of the two, I'd be more hesitant to move Couturier (and that's nothing against B. Schenn). |

I think that too many people are expecting the offer sheet to dramatically drop the price the Flyers would have to pay to acquire Weber.
I'm not saying it's impossible that the Preds just decline to match and take the 4 picks, but as valuable as a stockpile of 1st rounders is, it could be of more value to take advantage of Holmgren's lust for Weber and get flesh and blood players.
Maybe he can't get Couturier and Schenn, but at the same time, getting Voracek, Meszaros and say Gus, along with keeping 2 of the 1st rounders helps them get towards the floor, gives them 3 guys that should be regulars and gives them potential assets to trade to add more pieces and ice a competitive team.
That's what the Pres need to look at. If they keep Weber and can't put a good team around him, the fans will leave. If they replace Weber with lesser lights, that help keep the team competitive and in the playoffs, they make more revenue with less spending.

I still see no reason why we have to force a 'gratton trade' with Nashville. |

We dont. Flyers can take the chance that Nashville wont match. If the Flyers are willing to lose out on Weber than take the chance. |

The worst thing that happens is that Weber doesn't come to the East for another full calendar year. |

Yup, Ice the best team possible. Voracek is something the Preds needed for a bit and would give the offense some pop. Getting Gus and Mezy help out with the blue line, which has taken a hit. Homer will not let this big fish get away, he has his sights set and locked on |
