No way
This is the closest the Flyers have been to getting a number one, bona-fide dman. They will do something |

Well, since Mark Howe, anyway. I mean Pronger counts, too, but he wasn't in his prime. |

That was when it started getting predictable. That was a sad day. I predicted how Jackie jr was going to get killed two episodes before it happened. That was when I stopped watching.
I've gone back since and watched all of them, still a great series - Jsaquella
yea I didn't like that move. Tony;s real kid was a wuss and his heir to be Christopher was not right upstairs, not that any Mob guys are but he was really a basket case, he could have groomed that kid to be a real right hand man thus making the show better. The russian story never getting finished pissed me off. |

True, but Pronger was still excellent. This really needs to end, its getting out of control |

I'm not giving Nashville anything. I'm simply not willing to risk the Predators matching because they would come away with nothing that would help their club.
I'm not convinced there is no deal to be made w/o Couturier or Schenn. Perhaps that was true before the offer sheet, but not now.
But if they are so set on Couturier or Schenn then, fine, make it basically a one-for-one trade. Personally, I think the Voracek, Meszaros, Gus/MAB and a first-round pick scenario makes a lot more sense both hockey wise -- up to three starters in the lineup -- and cap wise (roughly same combined total cap hit once Voracek gets signed to a new contract). - bmeltzer
I hear where your coming from. I'm just thinking if your giving up Weber a franchise defenseman your going to ask for Couturier or Schenn back in the deal with Mez. Maybe they wont ask for that much but thats what I would ask and if the Flyers were unwilling I would just match the offer sheet for Weber.
Now if Nashville knows it will have problems handling the contract long-term I would think your option of Voracek, Mez, Gus with picks would be fair for them. |

Neither Desjardins or Kimmo was going to be a Norris finalist. Were they bona fide number one defensemen? Sure. But Howe, Pronger and Weber are Norris guys. |

Closing on a small Caribbean Island. Yes, I mean the entire Island. Guantanamo will be closed by December. - Jsaquella
is that the island you really want? that would fall under "stigmatized properties". i'm sure he'd get a great deal. |

Today has been the hardest for me. I'm starting to formulate line combos in my head...
Ek tweeted that a solid source said it's 50-50 we'll hear news tomorrow on the situation. But I can honestly say, if Nashville matches tomorrow, it'll bug me more than it would have if they did it today |

I believe he made the top 5 once, but was never a "finalist" (i.e. a top 3) |

Why would that be? You keep saying the odds are 80/20 that Nashville doesn't match.
Who will be upset if Nashville doesn't match the offer sheet? |

Even with Couturier or Schenn, there's still a scenario where I'd do the trade (but it wouldn't much make sense for Nashville, IMO):
Predators get one or the other. In return they agree to no match on the Weber OS, Preds keep 2013 1st rounder, Philly gets back 2014 first rounder with option of swapping it back to Predators for Nashville's first rounder (quite possibly moving up 10+ spots in the draft held in Philly), Philly gets back 2015 and 2016 first rounders.
To me, the Voracek, Meszaros, Gus or MAB plus a first-rounder staying with Preds type of arrangement sounds a lot more palatable to Preds.
At any rate, my main point is that no one except Giroux should be absolutely off limits in an agreement for a no-match on Weber. It all depends on what the entire agreement would look like. - bmeltzer
Bill, I apoligize if I get miss something in your post since I'm also on Penn State watch. The deal you proposed is (Schenn or Couts)+2013 #1 and the flyers get Weber and choice of Flyers 2014 #1 or Preds 2014 #1. I'm strictly talking net return here. |
