I now see what you meant. I was confused I dont think you can trade a retired player though. He'd have to retire after he is traded. Right?

Yes. Once his papers are filed, he can't be traded

I agree with you. This bit is a charade - the over 35 dance. They should just let him retire with dignity now without killing our cap for years.

No, it looked kind of lame, actually.

nothing to do with frank, but the frivolity irked me, as i have been thinking a lot about the incident in aurora. usually these kinds of things roll off my back a bit, but this one is really bothering me and i'm quite sad. thinking about it a lot. i think seeing so many tweets about it over the last couple of days is part of that, and to see something like what frank posted just annoyed the hell out of me. again, nothing against him personally. i also realize people need to go on with their lives, certainly those who were unaffected.

I'd rather the NHL just allow him to retire and come off the books, rather than have this charade
- Jsaquella

I agree, but if it were to benefit all parties it would happen seamlessly. However, the fact that there are 5 years left is certainly a sticking point

Well, let's say he gets traded and retires. Then the new CBA has a salary and cap roll back. That cap hit won't roll back.

Nope. CBA prohibits including cash in a trade

and maybe PSU football

http://www.cbsnews.com/83...lties-against-penn-state/

CBS News has learned that the NCAA will announce what a high-ranking association source called "unprecedented" penalties against both the Penn State University football team and the school.

"I've never seen anything like it," the source told correspondent Armen Keteyian

It just seemed like something a sleezy cousin from South Philly would do. I wanted to shoot back a tweet asking Frank if they all fit in his IROC

have to feel for the players and the students. something needs to be done, but not sure if massive penalties are going to make this situation any better.

I agree it is fifty fifty. Flyers do not have the power here. Everyone thought an offer sheet was stupid. Now it is a reality. If the Flyers dont offer enough, my guess is the Preds will match.

Imo Flyers have much more leverage than you think. Nashville must decide to either take on Weber's contract commitment in 3 days or to let him go for 4 1st round picks. There are no extensions. There are zero other teams but the flyers to deal with. Their options are very limited.... and time is ticking. If they deem they can't afford the contract the only way out is through the flyers. Meanwhile the flyers don't need weber (although they want him), and are putting on a show to let Poile know they have other options by courting doan. Flyers have all the power IF they are willing to let weber go to Nashville on a deal thats not on their terms. Good news for us... homer is the best at getting things done on his terms.

what a turn of events. all in the name of not looking bad. had they dealt with the truth at the time, none of this would be happening, some kids would have been spared, joepa is probably still alive, etc. instead by covering it up, they've made it infinitely worse. there's a serious lesson to be learned here.

I do feel for them, but it also sends a message that institutions of higher education need to stop elevating football coaches to the rank of deity. I worry that the Board of Trustees remains largely unchanged. The blank check that they gave to Spanier really made the situation worse.
