This is not a public press conference with the media. It's a conference call between the upper management members of #Preds and #Flyers.

Another reason why a deal for players going back to Nashville makes a lot of sense for both sides.

I know a lot of people are speculating about Vorachek (sp?) and Read, and a couple of first going to the Preds...but, I feel like it's got to be a lot more painful than that for the Flyers.

It will. The longer it goes, the more I think a deal is trying to be worked out.

I've stated many of times I prefer the Flyers stand pat but if they do decide to make a deal I just hope they don't give up too much b/c I still feel like they have an advantage. The fact that Nashville would be willing to make a trade kind of gives their hand IMO, that they can't afford Weber short-term or long-term.

Its only a conference call. Not a press release. Probably to inform of a decision or work out more details for a trade.

why would it be a conference call with Holmgren if there wasn't some kind of deal made. If the Preds were matching wouldn't it just be a conference call with Poile?

Possible, but so many variables. Percentage roll back, amnesty or grandfathering, etc. I wonder if teams will have to shed players to become cap compliant. That would be a way to get some bargains, if you're Nashville.

Grandfathering won't change anything for this upcoming Season. An Amnesty isn't happening. There could be some players available late.

The only reason the Flyers make a deal with the Predators on the side is to help them out cap wise to allow them to turn down matching the deal. Not to convince them or to compensate Nashville any further.

For that reason, I think it ends up being less painful than everyone expects.

Well te fact that Poille called for a conference call today with all the management rather than just picking up the phone and calling Holmgren... is news in my book.

I agree whole heartily and why stretch your teams finances for a player who through his agent has pretty much said I want out now that Suter is gone

I think it means that they feel it is the best approach. They could also match if they feel they aren't getting the deal they want for Weber.

my first impression wasn't so much odds as much as thinking it would take a trade to get it done. I want this plyr bad for the flyers, so the suspense is killer...

There is no way that dude knows about a PRIVATE call between Poile and Holmgren. More than likely, they've been having lots of calls over the last couple of days.

Would it be possible for the Preds to match, suffer the extreme signing bonus, and then trade him year after next? Hopefully getting closer to market value in return rather than having to take whatever the Flyers are willing to give?

The fact that not one legitimate source has called it true makes me believe that it is not...Dreger or somebody for TSN would be all over this if it were true

After the Weber thing is over, and the mandatory 2 or 3 weeks of speculation on other moves, line combinations, etc., it will be fun to debate what is happening in the CBA discussions and what will/won't make it into the final agreement.

That is certainly a factor in what decision the Preds make.
