IMO the NFL is a better game ...the slower play does not bother me at all because it makes the big plays that much more dynamic and exciting. When it comes down to the CFL I usually just watch the Grey Cup and that's it...because like you said, I myself can't get interested in a league with lower level talent and 8 teams.
- broadstreet11

Then your opinion is just plain wrong. It is only a better product because of the hoopla surrounding it. It is a much more boring game .They jst have more money to dump into it so of course you are going to attract the best players but it is by far a more boring game.

Its funny that you say that... because Lu was still in top 10 for SP for goalies who played ove 50 games (starters).. and had a bettr SP than Price. and was 3rd in Vezina voting just last year...
- kneughter

SP is a telling stat but Luongo had a way better defence in front of him than Price did. Also I like how you pick 50 games so he would fit into the top 10, Halak and backstrom had a better SP and still played 46 games which would make him a starter. Also I wouldn't consider the goalie ranked 10th in SP to be an Elite goalie considering there are only 22 goalies who started 50 plus games and most are pretty close to Luongo's .919. ( 17 of the 22 players had a .915 or better) When you take into consideration the team he played in front of his stats aren't that good.

Where did he finish for Vezina voting this year? The guy is getting older and ya 2 years ago he was one of the best in the league but at this point he has fallen off. Many young goalies coming up who are just better than him.

It's probably more about the yapping. Every team/player dives to draw penalties. If players did not like their teammates diving then there wouldn't be a professional soccer league in England.
Everything can be overlooked if you are winning.

Keslers type of diving puts him ahead of the rest. He goes all out. The last time we missed the playoffs, near the end of the season up a goal vrs the Avs in the 3rd Kesler dives on a fabricated highstick. There was no contact...he stayed down rolling around. It turned into an odd man and the lead was lost with Kes still rolling around at the other end. Garret shows the replay...stick whiffed 4 inches past his face... Then for the remainder of the period Kes doesnt shut up about it to the officials. In overtime Kes gets hacked in the mouth and is bleeding everywhere. He is outraged that there is no call. The refs tell him to shut up or he gets a penalty. We lost that game and were out of the playoffs 2 or 3 games later. Kesler has to know he is busted at the first look of a replay but does he ever quit the stage act? No.

Kesler seem to have matured two seasons ago quite a bit but stepped back into it last season again. It will take seasons of him acting like an adult before the refs feel different about him. He's damaged goods. He hurts the team with it but continues anyways. We need a guy like Doan in the locker room so bad.

I remember that.

He was pretty incensed. It was off the face-off, guess we know why they let that go.

Disagree. But also Benn is the player we need now, Carlson would be a great addition but doesn't fill a hole on the roster.
- AlexF

We have good wingers and centers IMO. We may need a really good winger for Kesler but I feel Booth will be better in a full season and Kassian and Jensen are close to being that top 6 winger we need. We need a bonafide number one defenseman.... Will it be Edler? Maybe, but Carlson will be a NHL number one defenseman and he shoots right. He's 6'3 and skates extremely well, plays great defense and can be used in all situations. Good vision, passer and shooter. Complete package. Benn is a great finisher but I think Carlson is on a different level as a hockey player that affects a game. He's more important to a team.

Overall I agree. It's obvious that he dives. And he's not particularly good at it. He's got to be able to see and correct that. But I refuse to blame Kes for missing the playoffs that year. The team as a whole are to blame.

And in regards to the bolded statement. It's a shame that our team doesn't have a coaching staff to help correct that behaviour. Gillis should really make an effort to fill those vacancies.

Agreed that Doan would not put up with Kesler's soccer-like antics. Just shut the f*ck up and play the game.

I HIGHLY doubt the offer sheet for Kane has even been considered. Gillis and management have way too brotherly a relationship with TNC and the Winnipeg group to ever screw them over like that.

On the other hand, screwing over the Beattie group would be super satisfying for the Aquilinis by signing Benn to an offer sheet. I hope that happens!

I'm surprised you missed my point by that many miles.

Show me where I said missing the playoffs was his fault?(by now someone is posting I'm a moron for *stating* what you suggested) He only cost them one point and they missed by 2 iirc. There were a whole season of blunders to point at so we are in agreement. Acting like that while on the brink of being eliminated from playoff contention is disgsting though.

It's just a poor display on all fronts. Maturity, leadership, gamemanship..totally selfish and a complete lack of shame. The hurt from incidents like that keep on hurting right into present day when officials blatently screw us...

Dial the arrogance down a bit would ya. Thanks.
When you stated "We lost that game and were out of the playoffs 2 or 3 games later." it sounds like you are pointing the finger. Obviously, I misinterpreted. You've corrected that.

If his only effect on the game was negative then I would share your opinion of him. But I can't overlook his contribution to this team.

Playoff performances like the one he had against Nashville keeps me positive. His Selke nominations and Trophy keeps me positive.

Vancouver should just be happy to get rid of the Luongo contract, he isn't the goalie he once was and is no longer and elite goalie plain and simple. The reason Luongo is still in vancouver is because no1 will pay to get him! These deals with Versteeg or even Nash coming back are pipe dreams.

Also Ian I saw you stated that Raymond> Brassard, I get that you like the canucks but let's be honest here Brassard is the way better player. He's a younger higher pick with more skill and for the past 2 seasons has put up better points on a much worse team. No1 sees much value in Raymond especially after last year and is way more of a gamble than Brassard.

Gotta agree with Vantel—can't stand the NFL. CFL is a more exiting game, and it doesn't help that all the players (like the NBA) act like clowns.
