I think Preds should trade. He doesn't want to be there and it would cripple the franchise matching or letting him walk for 4 late first rounders.
- VANTEL

I posted this on the Nashville thread...

I think the Preds have no choice but to let Weber go. Sucks for the Nashville fans, but i really do think it's the wise move in the long run. Take the picks and move on. The best way for small/mid market teams like Nashville to compete, is to do it just like Nashville has been doing in the past. That is:

Playing a well coached, tightly structured, defense first system. Draft well. Avoid overpriced, big $ free agents. Be frugal, and hopefully you're good enough to be a playoff team most years. Then, every once in a while when you feel you're close, go all in at the deadline...just like they did last year. Granted it didn't work, but I think for a smaller market team, the strategy could be a sound one.

Let Weber walk, take the picks, and reload. Having good young players on entry level contracts is very, very valuable...especially for the smaller market teams. What better way to try and make this happen than to have two 1st round picks a year for the next 4 years? Hell, they might even be able to take their two first round picks in any given year and trade up to get into the top 3. Over time, a deal like ths could make them the next Oilers.

Walk away, just let him go. (frank) him and the Flyers.

Wow! You deleted like half a page worth of troll comments? I'll be sure to never cross your path!
- MaximumBone

It probably adds up to a full page or more. But yes, crossing me is not wise. Those 2 Leaf trolls are on vacation now.

Let's talk hockey in here, boys!

Tell me I'm wrong. The Canucks should offer sheet Carlson and Benn for identical 6.1 million contracts. Than unload Ballard, Malhotra and Luongo.

You're not that wrong (especially for Benn), but both of those will be matched unless the term is ridiculous (10 years +)

Agreed as well. Honestly Weber is a great defenseman but I feel he's overrated defensively. Suter helped him out a lot.

Ya i forgot to mention 13 year deals. Also it wouldnt be possible because if one signs than you can sign the other do to lost draft picks. But the Canucks should offer sheet.

In response to your question on yesterdays blog thread asking: "That's quite the avatar. You make that one yourself? More of a canuck hater then a oil supporter?"

Thank you, but I can't take credit for the avatar. All I did was manipulate the size and cut out the border I found it with Now, I can't say I'm a Canucks hater so much as a Kesler-despiser. I. (frank)ing. Hate. Kesler. Or, at least, what I see of the guy, and considering where I live, I like to think I get my fair share of viewings both on and off the ice.

Please don't question my allegiance as an Oilers fan. No one has questioned your allegiance as a Canucks fan so I see no reason for you to do so to me. Personally, I prefer to assume that most of the individuals on this site have enough of a devotion to their particular team- and the game of hockey- as they take time out of their days to contribute to the conversations in these threads regularly. We all squared up now?

- MaximumBone

Still does not explain why you would rather advertise your hate for Kesler more than your love for the oil. What it tells me is you are a troll masquerading as a hockey fan. Great. Enjoy your time on HB.

Don't forget the 'system' they play under. It's team defence that makes the Preds a playoff contender every year.

Would you have a problem with Benn and Carlson for 10 years? I would probably be ok with it.Benn reminds me of a young Doan

Glad to see someone promoting civility. Thanks, the Canuck threads are becoming unreadable.

I wouldn't do it for Carlson. Benn yes, I'd do 10 years if that's the only way we can get him. I'd try to reduce the cap hit to like 5 or 5.5 and front load the sh!t out of it with bonuses so Dallas would have issues matching.

They were advertising $9 tickets last March. How much money can that franchise have?

You know, he could be the biggest ass in the world. I couldn't care less as long as he brings the cup to Vancouver. Now if him being the biggest ass causes us to lose the cup then I have a problem with him.

I'm not a fan of most professional sports figures. I just like the sports they play. The crest is more important to me then the individual names on the sweater.

A Canadian league filled with the NFL's crumbs when it comes to players.

To me it looked like the fans ,media and team got tired of his antics. I have no problem with him being a prrick it's the diving and yapping that gets to me.

The difference between CFL and NFL is in the last three minutes of any quarter the CFL has 3 or 4 scoring chances, while the NFL has 14 commercials 6 time outs and move the ball a total of 10 yards. NFL is so much better

Ditto.
It is being suggested that this is the reason some players do not have Vancouver as a preferred destination.
