Assuming we keep them all, my guess would be Larsson and Tallinder rotate in, whoever is playing better at the time, and Harrold is put in if they are both sucking or injury purposes - bobert836
The top six will be Tallinder, Larsson, Volchenkov, Salvador, Greene, and Zidlicky. Larsson and Fayne will rotate in, barring trade. Harrold will be playing forward and/or defense if injuries build up. Harrolds versatility is invaluable. |

“Packages don’t talk Jamie,” he snapped.
“Yes sir, but could I have an air hole?” Langenbrunner asked.
“What did I say Jamie?”
“Yes sir, sorry sir. Please let my family go.”

check out that middle name! Alyeksyeyeveech
not for nothin, but he's clearly past his prime. He's still good, but he's not the feared Volchenkov from Ottawa anymore. - MartysBetter88
maybe he will hit more and harder under Stevens |

its more his foot speed that doesn't seem to be there. I feel like he can't be as aggressive because he can't catch guys anymore. maybe i'm wrong, or maybe he was injured.. maybe my memory is faulty. Good ol Larry Robinson was a great defensive coach. Hope Stevens can add to what he started. |

No, you are basically wrong. It's because in Ottawa he was playing with Phillips. Who is he playing with here? Usually our worst defenseman. |

Not necessarily our worst, but an offensive type a la Larsson, Harrold, etc. and he doesn't have the speed to cover for guys like that, but when you put him with another defensive D(Salvador on the PK) he becomes a lot better |

Thank you good sir someone who can actually see the value in Volchenkovs game. Straight up all year he was playing with the worst defensemen...except the few nights he was paired with Sal and they were rocks back there. Phillips is underrated by everyone it seems hes a very good defensemen and definitely allowed A-train to play more reckless in Ottawa. I really don't understand this hate for Volchenkov, he rarely gets beat and almost never loses a battle in the corners. Blocks shots with a reckless abandonment for himself and oh yeah he doesn't turn the puck over when breaking it out too much. The only blemish is his offensive zone play as the man has hands of stone. |

I wouldn't mind moving ATrain, but I don't know if he wants to move. Maybe we can flip Tallinder for Stalberg, Setoguchi, someone like that. Not many options out there. If the cap drops maybe we can get a better winger cheap. I'm pretty sure SJ is close to the cap, maybe Pavelski becomes available. - rmdevil313
Tallinder for Stalberg or Setoguchi? I'm sure they'll be on board with shipping off great young talent for 33 year old defensemen coming off a potentially career-ending injury. Teams will want to see him play and prove that he can still be a steady player before he has any kind of value. I'd love to seem him traded too, but realistically he's worth about a 4th round pick and a low ranked prospect. |

There's no way the Devils are going into the season with all these d-men. No chance. Someone's getting dealt. All of these guys are starting caliber, and Larsson was hitting his stride just before he got hurt. Given the market value of some d-men moved last year, moving whoever out of these guys nets you a second round pick. Or a decent forward. |

I think Harrold played better than most are willing to give him credit for, but he should start the year in Albany until someone gets hurt. And if he's playing forward, than we're grasping at straws. You really think there's no one else who can play FW better? Hell, we have Barch AND Janssen for some unknown reason, how many FWs are we gonna carry? No way he sees time at FW.
And it would be stupid to not give another actual FW a chance like Anderson or Sislo. Hell, even give Hoeffel or any other rook a chance and see what they got. Worst case you send 'em back down. They need to find production lost via Parise, Poni, and Sykora if he's not re-signed (if he is then Sykora and Tedenby will probably fill out the FW spots). Putting Harrold at forward is something you do if you have injuries, not something to do consistently at all...if at all. He's a 7th D-man. That's about it.
I'll go on a MartysBetter88 style tirade complete will a million different line combos showing why he shouldnt be playing if he's on the pro roster next year as anything other than a 7-th defenseman. |

As of right now I believe Tallinder, Greene, and Fayne are the only NTC defenseman. Possibly Salvador. I don't remember if he got one or not.
He is a 35+ contract for the next 3 years though. |

Its not like Tallinder injured his knee that could limit mobility, strength, etc. As far as I know as long as he gets his conditioning up he'll be good to go. And he did play well for a few games in the finals.
Quenville was talking up Saad big time. They have extra wingers, have been looking for defensive depth/ a second line center. Stalberg is 26 and just hit 20 goals the first time. He's hardly "great young talent" especially in respect to other players in their system.
Minnesota needs defense as well. Over the past 3 seasons, Setoguchi has hit 36-41-36 points. He's 25. He's hardly a "great young talent" either. Guys like Coyle, Zucker, Phillips, and Bulmer are all coming up and should be ready soon, if not now. |

6,3" power forwards like Staalberg aren't going to be the guys who break 50 goals; the goal column isn't quite how talent and value are judged... and Setoguchi was the centerpiece last summer in a trade for Brent Burns. I wouldn't quite put Tallinder in Brent Burns territory...
