How so?

In 2009, the Flyers traded two former first rounders(Joffrey Lupul and Luca Sbisa) and two more first rounders for a 34 year old Chris Pronger.

We're talking a 26 year old Shea Webber here. A truly fair deal would have been JvR, Brayden Schenn, and a couple of 1st rounders.

Also, you're not really trading the players for the picks. You're trading them for Shea Weber, even though the transaction would say they were traded for picks.

Are you seriously comparing an established top 4 Dman like Meszaros to Sbisa and Loupel to Voracek?

It is more than we offered for Pronger. Pretty good comparison I thought. Sbisa would be a top 4 d man on our team probably. And just look how good Lupul played last year. Doesnt matter though. I just want, Schenns, Cooter, Giroux, and Webz

Lupul was a far more established player than Voracek when he was traded to Anaheim. When Lupul was traded, he had already had 3 more 20+ goal seasons than Voracek has now, and was every bit as highly regarded as Voracek is now.

Sbisa is a developing young defenseman. Meszaros is a 26 year old guy who has battled inconsistency and is coming off major back surgery.

You're also ignoring that Weber is 26, Pronger was 34. Huge difference

Voracek's season last year at age 22 was as good as any that Loupel had by 25/26 when he was traded. If Sbisa was such a great addition then the Preds should be happy with Laughton. I'm OK with that, but they need $$$ towards the floor. If they want Laughton over Meszaro that's fine with me.

I should add that Vorecek was a year younger last year than when Loupel made the NHL.

I wouldn't mind if he were included in any 'compensatory' package that is sent to Nashville in the event the Flyers sign Weber.

I agree, Lupol was more established, by far. He established himself as one of the softest second line wingers in hockey. Lupul made Pavel Brendl look like Tony Horton.

Voracek, dare to dream son. If you eat your fruit loops in the morming and drink your beer at night, you too can become an all around hockey god like Lucky Lupul.

Not really. Lupul had 3 20 goal, 50 point seasons when he was traded by the Flyers for Pronger. Voracek hasn't had a single 20 goal season and only one 50 point season in his career.

Not saying that Lupul's leaps and bounds better, but they are similar players, in terms of stats and potential at the time of the trades.

There's also different needs of the teams they'd be trading with. Anaheim was trying to cut cap costs. Nashville needs to add cap, while balancing salary, which is why a young veteran with a $4mm cap hit is likely more attractive than a kid on a EL deal, such as Sbisa or Laughton, who isn't even signed.

Also, if the Flyers include Meszaros, it helps the Predators fill the holes created by the losses of Suter and Weber, which is another factor considering the defense FA market was thin to begin with.

Again, the Pronger trade was a trade to bring in a 34 year old player on the downside of his career. Weber is a 26 year old Norris level player entering his prime. You think that should be cheaper than Pronger was?

Voracek. Meszaros and a 1st rd pick in 2013 and 2014 to get Weber is not as good a team as staying pat and signing Doan IMO.

The comparison was in age, both coming off rookie seasons. Both teens, yes coots has much hockey sense, but will he continue to grow and develop ? I hope so. I know what Weber is, still young at 26, but looking at his size, his skill, his meanness, he is the premier d-man in the NHL. My opinion, but I want the best dman even at the cost of Coots
- flyhoc

Nashville can ask for Coots all they want and Homer will laugh in their face. The fact that the offer sheet came out is because he doesn't want to move the youngsters.

How about if they do that trade, get Weber and add Doan? That's the other benefit. If they move out money, they can sign Doan or another winger

All this is just discussion. It's a high price to pay. But Weber's probably the best all around defenseman in the game. And he's only 26. That sort of player generally is expensive to land.

Yeah but if they are losing money (especially alot of fans because no Suter) do you think the owners are really going to all pony up alot? I don't think so. If they wanted to pony up alot of money they would have matched the Weber offer by now.

Salaries may be rolled back, but 13 million dollar bonuses aren't. Ouch.

If you add Weber and trade Vorcek and Mesz there isn't enough money for Doan. Unless I missed soemthing which is possible.

Was about to say that. This whole offseason has been nothing but waiting. It's just so frustrating that Shea Weber wants to play for our team and has signed with our team and in 3 days we could never get a chance at him again. That's what is scaring me.

It's possible to add both Weber and Doan. It'd be extremely tight, but it's doable, depending on how much Doan wants
