If the perfet storm hits is this what we're looking at or something like it?

Hartnell/G/Schenn
Doan/Briere/Redd
fedetenko/Couts/Simmons
Wellwood/talbot/Rinaldo

Weber/Schenn
Timo/Coburn
Grossman/Gervais
MAB

Voracek, Meszaro traded. Shelly and Lilja gone.

It's tight

- jstross

Redd and Simmons... Interesting..

Voracek makes the most sense because he can sign a contract that will help Nashville reach the floor, fills a need for them and isn't signed right now.

He has more value to the Preds than a guy like Read, and the Flyers don;t want to give up Couturier or Bryaden Schenn

- Jsaquella

True...
If it come down to getting or not getting Weber, do you trade Coots ?
I like him, but for me a franchise D-man like Weber would be worth it

One of the issues that the Preds have to work out is Weber+Rinne=$14.8 million. They have 7 RFAs up next year. It's tough. they lost money last year and what was their cap hit?

The picked their franchise player when they picked Rinne unless they have some new tv contract coming up.

- jstross

If they pay Weber then they wont have enough to pay the RFAs to build around Weber and Rinne. I say Weber for Meszaros Voracek and 2 1sts.

If they had to, I'd want more of the picks back, and I'd be really hesitant to include a guy like Meszaros.

But Weber is one of a handful of guys, at most, where I;d consider Couturier.

That said, if they were willing to include Couturier, Weber'd be a Flyer by now

But with a new CBA who knows maybe they will be able to pay less next year for their RFAs

Seems we like Weber similarly. Maybe Nash wanted Coots, Schenn, Schenn etc...

It still wouldn't matter the cap hit, it is the actual spending budget of the owners, they will be losing money no matter what happens.

Weber is a younger Pronger, lot of people were upset at giving up a kid, Sbisa. He is still maturing, who knows how Coots will end up. dont misunderstand I love him too, but he is very raw, and for Weber I would have to part with him

Same here. But giving up both Schenns is too much esp. if coupled with two 1st round picks. I love Weber but that is
simply too much for me.

yes but in a new CBA if salaries are rolled back, and the cap is reduced, next years salaries would be lower than this years (hypothetically)

there's no comparison between sbisa and coots, who possesses hockey sense by the boatload. it's rare for an 18 year old to stick as a rookie, let alone be a major contributor. i want weber like a mofo, but not for coots.

both schenns and two firsts are a lot, no doubt. i'd feel better about that, than giving up coots.

Pass if you have to give up Schenn or Couts. Hold firm Holmy. Sign Voracek and Doan and dominate.

Hartnell/G/Schenn
Doan/Briere/Voracek
Read/Couts/Simmons
Fed/Talbot/Wellwood

Timo/Coburn
Mesz/Grossman
Schenn/Gervais
MAB

Damn good team.

The comparison was in age, both coming off rookie seasons. Both teens, yes coots has much hockey sense, but will he continue to grow and develop ? I hope so. I know what Weber is, still young at 26, but looking at his size, his skill, his meanness, he is the premier d-man in the NHL. My opinion, but I want the best dman even at the cost of Coots

I think he's the best all around defenseman in the NHL. Bar nobody

Everyone please stop with having to replace each 1st rd pick with a player. Schenn, Schenn and Couts are top 8 picks worth a minimum of two current year late first round picks. For example, no way anyone would trade B. Schenn for a 2015 and 2016 1st rd picks.

Now Schenn's straight up for Weber would be more than fair.

How so?

In 2009, the Flyers traded two former first rounders(Joffrey Lupul and Luca Sbisa) and two more first rounders for a 34 year old Chris Pronger.

We're talking a 26 year old Shea Webber here. A truly fair deal would have been JvR, Brayden Schenn, and a couple of 1st rounders.

Also, you're not really trading the players for the picks. You're trading them for Shea Weber, even though the transaction would say they were traded for picks.

Yeah but if they are losing money (especially alot of fans because no Suter) do you think the owners are really going to all pony up alot? I don't think so. If they wanted to pony up alot of money they would have matched the Weber offer by now.
