How about Vorachek, MAB and 3 1sts? And throw in Cousins to sweeten the pot if you had to. |

The flyers Gm has already done his job......try to improve his team and at the same time trying to keep assets from his rivals. He clearly did not want Suter and Parise to end up in Pitts or NYR so he bids up the price and they land in minny.....all the while he speaking w/ poile try to get a deal done for his real target....weber.....along the way , letting carle and jags walk b/c he has a bigger fish in Mind.....that said, we will either get weber or not but more importantly our rivals did not get weber.....weber in Nash is better than Pitts or NYR......and I like our team with weber and losing a few players....mezoros, vorakek and the like.....I don't think the flyers will give up any major pieces b/c we already won !!!

That's more than they gave up for Pronger in an open-market trade... |

Well, part of me can't argue because I hated the Pronger trade. But that was mainly because of his age. From the beginning I was skeptical about his ability to play out the contract, tho I never would have guessed concussion.
But I think those offers are about equal, this is probably a little higher.
Lupul < Vorachek, tho their points were about the same in trade year Jake has more upside
Sbisa >> MAB OR Sbisa = MAB + Cousins
Two first rounders in each case.
EDIT: Sorry, three 1sts in the deal for Weber. But his age buys an extra first. |

Holmgren should toss in some package including Voracek, get Weber, them immediately toss another offer sheet at Poile for Voracek. |

That's the kind of deal you make if you have a host of other teams driving up the asking price... that's way too much to give up just to turn a dominant position into a done deal. Yeah, you stand the chance of walking away empty-handed, but that's better than weakening the team short and long-term for potentially no reason. |

You also don't advise your client to sit on his hands and sign a one year contract knowing this most likely will be his last chance for a record payday. That would be tantamount to malpractice. Talk about your home town discount!
As his agent, it's my job to get him the most security that I can. And I have to get it this year, be it in Nashville, or Philly, or where ever not knowing what the cap constraints will be in 2013 and beyond. |

as you said, walk away empty handed is fine given the chips we have and that he stays out of ny and pitt, or any other eastern team for that matter. |

the flyers are already the bad guys in the eyes of the league, might as well embrace the role |

I agree about the Agent playing a role in the contract. But I don't agree that Weber clearly wanted out of Nashville. In fact his Agent said recently, that Nashville is home for Weber, and he'd have no problem finishing out his career in Nashville. Moreso what Weber clearly wanted was a long term front laded contract with a chance to win the Cup. And the Flyers clearly have the better ability to offer that then Nashville does. It's far more abut that, then wanting out of Nashville. If wanting out of Nashville was the clear motivation. He plays out the year, and hits Unrestricted Free Agency. - MJL
And risk losing millions due to the new CBA. Not likely. It was now or never. I think his agent and the Flyers have a pretty good idea if the Preds will match or not. |

i'm just kidding
probably wouldn't even be possible, considering a deal for weber (even one including jake) would likely also include our 2013 first rounder |

He's not content with his contract situation, and his chances of winning a Cup. If your lone motivation is to leave Nashville, you don't sign a deal that could result in being signed to play there for the next 14 years.

Which supports my statement that his motivation is the front loaded long term contract.

My friend. Don't bother. It's like banging your head against the wall. Everything that came out (spending day attempting to trade, agent stressing Flyers are "best fit", and "things changed after Ryan left") kind of foreshadows that Nashville won't be able to match, but the lack of information over the past day and a half has kind of got everyone going back and forth. I'm pretty sure Weber is a Flyer and Nashville has it's out by saying the Flyers didn't practice in the spirit of the CBA. Just me, but I can't kill guys like MJL or anyone else because there has been so little information and they are voicing logical and respectable alternatives. |

IMO Voracek, Meszaros and the 2013 1st rd pick gets you most of the way to equaling a 1st rd pick in 13, 14, 15, 16 if not all the way there. |
