The Boston Bruins are inching closer and closer to the first day of the season. But before that comes Boston’s annual rookie camp, and for the second straight season, a prospect tournament against prospects from the Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils, which opens tomorrow at Warrior Ice Arena.

The group, announced today, will include 15 forwards, eight defensemen, and two goalies.

As noted, 2015 first-round pick Zach Senyshyn, who scored 45 goals in 66 games in the OHL last year, will miss camp with an appendectomy, but will be back in Boston for the start of main camp. But there’s still a ton of players to watch, up front especially, for the Black and Gold. The big name there is Jake DeBrusk, who, like Senyshyn, was part of 2015’s first-round class for Boston.

And though it’s not expected that DeBrusk will challenge for an NHL spot from the jump, the 19-year-old will embark on his professional career this season, and without a real bonafide forward group set in Boston -- at least beyond the top six -- there’s an outside chance a strong showing puts him on the radar. The same can be said for the recently signed Danton Heinen.

On the backend, the progression of Brandon Carlo and Jakub Zboril remains a focal point for the Bruins. Some expect Carlo, who finished his season down with the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League, to challenge for a spot on the big league roster this year.

The group will have their off-ice testing in Brighton on Thursday before they head to Buffalo for their first practice before the tournament begins with a Sunday night game against New Jersey’s rookies.
