Interesting report from TSN's Bob McKenzie on Czech winger Jiri Sekac, who is apparently drawing a ton of attention after an impressive season with Lev Prague of the KHL.

Sekac, who is 21-years-old, has apparently received a dozen contract offers from NHL teams. His 11G/17A season drew plenty of attention from scouts in attendance -- his agent, Allan Wash, added this a couple of weeks ago:

If you were paying attention a week or so ago, Bill Meltzer had a nice write-up on the 6'2, 163-lb right winger. Not knowing a ton about the player, I'll defer to Meltzer's expertise here. He states the following (you should read the entire write-up here:

At the World Championships, Sekac scored goals against Slovakia and Italy to post two points in 10 games. He came close to scoring at least two other goals; hitting the post in games against Norway and Canada. The latter came on an otherwise perfect play where he deked James Reimer on the backhand and had the goalie beaten cleanly but ticked the elevated shot off the inside of the post.

.....

One of main knocks on Sekac is that he is an unorthodox-looking skater. Although he is not a physical player and could stand to be a little harder on the puck, he has shown a greatly improved "compete level" from the time when he a bust in Peterborough. Sekac is a stronger and more confident player than he was then. He has also developed his two-way game.

Sekac is still young enough to be in an upward development cycle. He does not project as a top-six forward in the NHL but could find a role if he continues to develop and is willing to spend time in the AHL and work his way up from there.

Color me a bit intrigued, if only because I'm of the opinion that (a) you can never have enough good players; and (b) Ottawa's not exactly loaded at right-wing. Besides, some quick research turned up the following, and I'm swooning a bit now:

I'm not sure if Sekac is in Bryan Murray's plans, but with the team ready to lose their entire second-line, perhaps taking a shot on this kid might not be the worst idea.

Would you make a offer?
