1) USA took on Canada in a World Junior Summer Showcase game on Saturday night and picked up an impressive 5-1 win.

A big reason why was the play of Calgary Flames prospect Tyler Parsons.

The game was more evenly played than the scoreline suggests (shots were 36-36) but Parsons was the difference.

USA came out flat and were out shot 22-10 in the 1st period. Despite that they led 2-0 after 20 minutes because Parsons shut the door and allowed USA to find their footing.

He wasn't tested as much in the final 40 minutes - he faced just 14 shots in that span - but did his job when called upon.

The goal he allowed was one he'd probably want back but as a whole Parsons was nearly flawless.

He is probably already a lock to make USA's World Junior team but a performance like that certainly won't hurt his cause.

2) Flames prospects Dillon Dube (Canada) and Adam Fox (USA) both took part in that game as well but had rather uneventful evenings. Dube took a late minor penalty, which USA scored on, and neither player registered a point.

3) Matthew Tkachuk is banged up and did not participate in this contest, although he could have. The Flames want him rested and fully ready to go when training camp opens up because they're going to give him every opportunity to make the team. I still expect him to go back to London when all is said and done but Tkachuk will probably get a nine-game look unless he is completely overwhelmed.
