If the process is sound the results will come in due time.

While the Calgary Flames' 1-1-1 record over their last three games won't inspire anyone they have been playing much better hockey and are starting to get rewarded for their efforts despite truly terrible goaltending.

The Flames have allowed three or more goals 10 times in 12 games, four or more goals nine times and their trio of goaltenders have posted a pathetic .867 team save percentage at 5 vs 5.

While the goaltenders continue to struggle the play from the rest of the team is improving and a big part of that can surely be attributed to the return of T.J. Brodie.

In the first nine games of the season (all without Brodie) the Flames generated just 47% of the shot attempts and were outscored 28-10 at 5 vs 5.

The Flames seemed to be trending upwards a couple games beforehand but since Brodie has returned to the lineup they've been a much improved team.

Over the last three games the Flames have generated 55.9% of the shot attempts at full-strength and have scored nine goals in that span as a result.

They've actually been outscored 10-9 at full strength in the three games but, as much as anything else, that's due to Jonas Hiller/Joni Ortio/Karri Ramo stopping just .825%(!) of the shots they've faced in that span.

The Flames are still five games under .500 but they're starting to remotely resemble a playoff caliber team. If they continue to carry play at evens, and their goaltenders can make an extra save or two in the process, they should get positive results on a more frequent basis.
