The Big "O" & The Big "Ovi"?
With word that the the NHL is in its final stages of preparation when it comes to the 2009-2010 season schedule, an interesting little tid-bit of information has leaked out.
It seems that still in the mix to be included in the season's schedule is a possible matchup of the Washington Capitals versus the Montreal Canadiens at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, the former home of the Montreal Expos.
The game would apparently be set for Saturday, Nov.28th(or the Saturday before) and would serve as a finale of sorts to the Montreal Canadiens Centennial Celebration, which ends on December 5th.
There is no guarantee that this will game will remain on the docket, but in an effort to find a way to compliment the annual January 1st outdoor game, the League has held onto the idea of the Caps and Habs facing each other in a spotlight game.
If the game goes ahead as scheduled that means the Canadiens and Capitals will likely be playing in front of more than 50,000 people in an indoor setting.
It may not be outdoor and hold the same nostalgic value, but a Caps/Habs game in front of 50,000 people would be pretty special.
Of course, this is all hearsay at the moment as the League has not been inclined to confirm it one way or another, but, I would put my money on this being the last item discussed on the schedule. It will be a tough call, but the idea of putting these two teams on display in front of 50,000 people is definitely exciting.
The schedule will be out in the next 24 hours and we will have our answer, but in the meantime...what do you think?
