The San Jose Sharks are having one of those seasons. If there was even a hint of doubt before Friday's tilt in Vegas - there should be zero doubt now. It's just one of those seasons.

You know what kind of season I'm talking about.

One of those seasons when nothing is clicking at the same time. When the offense is on, the defense is off. When the defense is on, the offense is off. When the power play is good, the penalty kill is bad. When the video review screws you every time. Yep, it's one of those seasons and more often than not, these type of seasons end without a playoff birth.

Before Jonathan Marchessault took a pass from Shea Theodore to secure the game-winning goal in the Vegas Golden Knights a 5-4 overtime victory - it felt like it was the Sharks game to lose. The delivered.

The Sharks came into the game with the fourth-worst goals per game average (2.45 GAA)in the entire NHL - and when you spot the home team a 4-1 lead. it feels like your heading up Mount Everest with nothing more than flips flops and board shorts. But, goals from Brent Burns, Chris Tierney and Mikkel Boedker in the second period erased that almost impossible lead and tied the game at four.

Maybe thing are starting to turn around? Uhm, no. It's one of those seasons, remember?

The Sharks thought they had turned that beefy 4-1 deficit into a 5-4 lead early in the third period. Logan Couture appeared to give his team the lead, but Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant challenged for goalie interference. Video review confirmed Joonas Donskoi interfered with goalie Malcom Subban. Remember the Florida game? Video review has not been kind to San Jose. It's just one of those seasons.

Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory.

The Pacific Division leading Golden Knights improved to 14-6-1, have won four in a row and improved to 9-1 at home. Yep, one of those years.

San Jose falls to 11-8-2, currently sit fifth in the Pacific and trail Vancouver by one point for the final wild card spot out West.

Yep, Vancouver. One of those seasons.

Here are some of the notable nuggets from the game.

- Despite the loss, San Jose secured at least a point in three consecutive games and is 5-3-2 in the last last 10 games.

- Brent Burns played in his 900th career game and he scored his first goal of the season. Yep, what of those seasons.

- Joe Thornton has two assists. It was only his second multi-point game of the season and his first assists since Nov. 8, a span of six games.

- Mikkel Boedker needs three goals for 100 in his career. At the pace he scores he should reach that milestone some time late next season.

- Joel Ward had a couple of helper for points 299 and 300 in his career. He trails Thornton by 1,104 points for 20th on the all-time points list.

- Vegas has never lost a game to the Sharks. They are 1-0-0 all-time.

- Martin Jones was pulled after allowing three goals on 14 shots. Jones has already been yanked three times this season.
