It's almost here peeps! The day where every hockey collector can get in on the action for zero dime while pulling in some quality product: National Hockey Card Day!
A brainchild of hobby stalwart Upper Deck, National Hockey Card Day (falling on Saturday, February 18 this particular spin around the sun) is an opportunity for hockey fans and collectors, young and old alike, to score some exclusive cards featuring stars of the past, present and future for a solid discount price of $0! Each side of the 49th parallel will have its own unique 15 card base set, with a special hobby-shop exclusive 16th card (free with any $10 Upper Deck purchase) featuring Auston Matthews rounding out the set (different variations in the US and Canada on this card).
“How do I get in on this?… you might ask. If you did, the answer is as follows (if you didn’t, email me your unique question as I’m not a mind reader…): In Canada, free nine-card sheets will be available at participating Toys R Us and London Drug stores, while five card packs will be available at participating hobby shops. To the best of my knowledge, on the US side this will be a hobby shop exclusive and is presumably a pack-only promotion.
Subsets are as follows:
US – America's Rookies, Stars in Stripes and American Icons
Canada - Canada's Rookies, Pride of Canada, Hockey Heroes
Within hobby shop packs will also be short printed Victory Black rookie card inserts, continuing off the insert series that began as an Upper Deck redemption offer during the 2016 Fall Sports Card and Memorabilia Expo. Rare autographed versions of these inserts will also be in the packs for the lucky few who manage to pull one!
Head over to www.upperdeck.com/nhcd/ for lists of participating dealers in both the US and Canada, and let me know how your day goes!
