Speculation About Future Top Four Defense Candidate

Here is some personal speculation to start off your Monday:

This isn't 2015-16 speculation it would be for the 2016-17 season. Joni Pitkanen has missed the last two seasons due to that horrific crash into the boards on a delayed icing. His track record prior to being injured was a solid top four defenseman

Here is some other supporting data to confirm his worth as an NHL player

The reason for this speculation is simple. The Penguins have a need at that position and Joni Pitkanen has a past working relationship with Jim Rutherford.

It may turn out that Rutherford won't be the Penguins general manager under an ownership change. It may turn out that Pitkanen cannot successfully make a comeback, but at least in these very early stages it is something to ponder with a team that lacks top four defense depth.

I'll throw in some bonus speculation for good measure today

That tweet was sent before Anaheim's 4-1 victory over Minnesota last night. Prior to the game the Anaheim Ducks were 0-3-1. Anaheim's shooting percentage at even-strength was ~1% in those four games. That is hilariously bad and was never going to stay there. It is now already up to 3.2% after last night's game.

Coaches get fired/extended all the time when things like save percentage and shooting percentage are out of whack. While I don't believe Bruce Boudreau is going to get the ax you can see that Pittsburgh isn't the only team that had a dead man walking theme with their head coach.

For the record I do believe that Boudreau would be a really good fit for Pittsburgh in this hypothetical nonexistent firing from Anaheim.
