Trade Rumor Updates For Jagr and Winnik

The Penguins humbled the Red Wings last night by a score of 4-1. While Detroit may have had an off night it was still a significant victory for Pittsburgh.

The Penguins gave a glimpse of what two solid top six lines can do for them when all of their forwards are healthy.

Blake Comeau was an animal on Evgeni Malkin’s left wing and had a goal and an assist in his first game back after a long injury layoff. His presence in the lineup is a big deal and the Penguins missed him.

It does however show just how razor thin the Penguins depth is up front.

You can see why I believe the Red Wings should be in pursuit of another defenseman. Multiple Penguins goals last night were from unforced turnovers with the Red Wings defenders handling the puck like they had oven mitts on.

Who would have thought that a team could survive scratching Zach Sill?

On the trade rumor front Bob McKenzie mentioned the Penguins and Daniel Winnik again on NBCSN last night. We’ll see where this goes but Winnik is certainly a depth guy that could really help out the Penguins cause. Winnik will be moved. It is just a matter of where.

Mike Santorelli would also be a piece in Toronto that could help a playoff team’s bottom six forward grouping.

On the Jagr front Tom Gulitti, a beat writer for the Devils, had this information yesterday .

If Jaromir Jagr was still playing 20 minutes a night, I think he might have wanted to stay in NJ regardless of playoffs.

It seems like Jagr feels now like if he's going to play a reduced role, he might as well do it on a team in the playoffs

Jagr stated more than once todaythat teams interested in him should know he'd be willing to play a reduced role.

The other interesting thing Jagr said today is he plans to play in the NHL next season and would go on a camp tryout if necessary.

I find that tidbit about Jagr going to camp on a tryout pretty funny. Guy is still a legit player in the NHL, he won't need a tryout, somebody will sign him.

Beau Bennett played again last night and was with Brandon Sutter and Nick Spaling.

All Beau Bennett criticisms can begin and end with this

Have some realistic expectations.

Usage matters. All expectations of players should be tempered when playing with below replacement level players.

I stumbled upon a pretty great and promising David Perron stat last night.

David Perron has 9 goals in 16 games with the Penguins after only have in 5 in 38 games with Edmonton.

The great news is that Perron isn't riding some crazy high shooting percentage while scoring these goals. He is actually shooting right in line with his career numbers.

Since joining the Penguins his shooting percentage is 13.6%.

His career number is 12.8%.

The only thing that has changed is the fact he now has more opportunities playing with Sid. This is excellent.

Penguins are right back in action tonight against the lowly Senators. As nice as last night’s win was a loss against Ottawa would be the exact opposite.
