No official word from the Avalanche yet, but they reportedly have agreed to terms with former Harvard center Alex Kerfoot to a two-year, entry-level contract.

The news was first reported on Wednesday by TSN’s Darren Dreger.

Kerfoot, 23, was Harvard's captain his senior season when he had 45 points (16 goals, 29 assists) in 36 games. He helped the Crimson to a berth in the NCAA's Frozen Four and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award.

Several NHL teams were interested in signing the 5-feet-10, 175-pound Kerfoot, who was the New Jersey Devils' fifth-round pick (No. 150) in the 2012 NHL draft. He became an unrestricted free agent Aug. 16, just as former Avalanche draft pick Will Butcher did.

The New York Rangers last summer signed Harvard free agent forward Jimmy Vesey, who was Kerfoot's linemate and won the Hobey Baker Award in 2016.

Kerfoot, who is from West Vancouver, B.C., played four years at Harvard and had 123 points (36 goals, 87 assists) in 121 games.

The Avalanche signed free agent center Dominic Toninato a week ago. The former Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick also became a free agent Aug. 16. He was Minnesota Duluth captain and helped the Bulldogs defeat Harvard in the Frozen Four semifinals.
