We won't know until Wednesday evening which Avalanche player was selected by Vegas in the expansion draft, but we do know that Colorado will open the 2017-18 season on the road.
The NHL announced earlier Wednesday that the Avalanche will open at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers on Thursday, Oct. 5. They'll play New Jersey in the Devils' home opener in Newark on Saturday, Oct. 7.
The Avalanche's home opener is set for Wednesday, Oct. 11, against Boston.
The complete schedules for all NHL teams will be announced Thursday at 3 p.m. ET.
This will be the eighth time the Avalanche open on the road since the franchise has been in Denver. They previously started on the road in 2014-15 with a 5-0 loss in Minnesota. They are 2-4-1 (there was a 2-2 tie in Dallas in 2000) when starting away from the Pepsi Center.
The only other known Avalanche games were announced in March. They'll play Ottawa in Stockholm on Nov. 10-11.
