The Avalanche (6-7-0) didn't have a morning skate, but center Matt Duchene won't play Sunday against Boston at the Pepsi Center, according to the team website.

Here are the GAME NOTES.

Duchene, who leads the Avalanche in scoring with six goals and five assists, was injured Friday on a Jacob Trouba hit in the Avalanche's 3-2 overtime win against Winnipeg and didn't practice Saturday.

Nathan MacKinnon will take Duchene's spot at center, moving from right wing to play on a line with left wing Gabriel Landeskog and right wing Mikko Rantanen.

"I played center for the first 10 games, went back to the wing and now I'm back playing center," MacKinnon said. "It's not a big change at all for me. I'm pretty comfortable."

The Avalanche called up left wing A.J. Greer from AHL San Antonio on Saturday and he's expected to make his NHL debut, possibly on a line with center Carl Soderberg and right wing Rene Bourque.

The 6-feet-3, 204-pound Greer had five goals and nine assists in 13 games with the Rampage. He was Colorado's second-round pick (No. 39) in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Goalie Semyon Varlamov will start after making 16 saves Friday against the Jets to end his five-game losing streak. He is 3-6-0 with a 3.47 goals-against average and .882 save percentage. He has a 2-3-1 record against Boston with one shutout, a 2.66 goals-against average and .909 save percentage.

Blake Comeau, who's missed three games with a groin injury, took part in practice Saturday, but coach Jared Bednar said he wants him to get in more practice time before returning to the lineup. Defenseman Fedor Tyutin (arm) is day to day.

The Bruins (9-6-0) didn't have a morning skate after opening a three-game road trip Saturday with a 2-1 win against Arizona. They are 3-1-0 in their past four games and 5-2-0 in seven.
Rookie defenseman Brandon Carlo, who is from Colorado Springs, is 6-5 and 203 pounds. He's been paired with Zdeno Chara, who is 6-9, 250.

"I have plenty of family and friends coming up, probably too many for me to handle, but overall I think it will be a lot of fun, a great experience,” Carlo told the Boston Herald. “It’s pretty crazy. I used to go to games in that building and watch the Avalanche play and now I’ll be out there competing against those guys.”

Goalie Tuukka Rask made 31 saves Saturday, but he hasn't played both ends of a back-to-back set this season, so rookie Zane McIntyre might get the start.

Rask is 9-1-0 with a 1.69 goals-against average and .941 save percentage. McIntyre made 20 saves Tuesday in a 3-2 loss to Montreal in the second game of a back-to-back set. He's 0-2-0 with a 4.03 goals-against average and .859 save percentage.
