Okay, NOW the Flyers Need to Deal Coburn to the Oilers

I'll let you grumps off the hook, and give you a different blog to read.

The Oilers did nothing today. Well, next to nothing. They issued qualifying offers. Colten Teubert, Theo Peckham and Alex Plante are all no longer pieces of the franchise. No surprised there.

The one big surprise was Vincent Lecavalier signing long-term with the Flyers. How can this team hope to survive under the cap? It's a disaster. They don't even have a starting goalie yet.

Rumor is, Jaroslav Halak will be dealt to the Flyers, in case you wondered.

So that Braydon Coburn deal with the Oilers...the one that almost happened at the NHL Draft...it's back on, right?

I'd think so.

You people aren't going to like this. I heard the rumor today that it will be Magnus Paajarvi will be the principle asset going back in a deal, but I don't believe the Oilers will do that. Or at least, not yet. Maybe if they sign two or three UFA forwards first. The player the Oilers will move for Coburn will be Ladislav Smid.

Or...

The Oilers will deal Paajarvi to get Coburn, and will then move Smid to bring in a forward. Either way, Smid is going.

Other Stuff

1. Oilers broadcast team LOVES David Clarkson, and usually that's a good indicator as to what management is going to do.

2. Hearing Nathan Horton wants too much for the Oilers to consider him, and that he wants to stay in the east.

3. Shawn Horcoff has given the Oilers 10 teams he'd accept a deal to. I know that the Penguins, Kings and Red Wings are on the list. I would have been much happier if the Oilers just bought him out to end the misery.

4. I'd rather doubt it if the Oilers target Jeff Schultz. I'm curious if they look at Mike Komisarek who was bought out by the Leafs. Could be a decent depth defenseman. Nashville is shopping Jonathon Blum and the Wild are going to buyout Tom Gilbert. And then there's still the Paul Ranger rumors. So, the Oilers have options if they want to pick up depth defensemen.

5. No Hemsky trade rumors of consequence yet.
