Blue Jackets recall Sonny Milano

Well it appears Sonny Milano is going to be the yo-yo player this season. He has be recalled for his second stint with the Jackets.

Milano did not get into a game last time he was up and is unlikely to see any action again, barring an injury. He has been called up because the team has a back to back, playing Montreal at home tonight before playing in St. Louis tomorrow. He may get a chance to play in that St. Louis game depending on how the Montreal game goes.

There is no problem having Milano up with the NHL team if he is going to play. If he is going to come up and sit on the bench it’s not worth it. He needs game action so he can continue to develop. A team’s top prospect should not be bouncing up and down like this. If this was a more veteran player or a lower end prospect it would be fine. Michael Chaput has this type of role for a few years with the Jackets. He would come up, sit on the bench get into a game or two and then go back down. This would have been a perfect spot for Gregory Campbell, though he clearly doesn’t want to do that at this stage of his career. A player like Markus Hannikainen would work well in this spot. He’s played well in the AHL but isn’t a top prospect.
