The Islanders head to Vancouver for game eight of their franchise-long nine-game road trip. The Isles are 4-2-1 on this trip. Their last win, a 4-1 win in Edmonton was their first win in Edmonton since 2003. The winning goalie that night was Garth Snow.

Before the Islanders went on this trip, I thought for this trip to be successful they needed at least 11 points. If they win the next two, the Isles will come home with 13 points and will still be holders of the second wild card spot.

Thomas Greiss will likely be in net tonight. I would imagine that he would start Saturday as well. Greiss passed Snow for 12th place on the Islanders all-time goaltender win list with his 44th win. Tuesday's win was the German's 22nd of the season and became just the second goaltender in the Isles post-Cup era with multiple 22-win seasons. Rick DiPietro being the other.

Interim head coach Doug Weight paired defensemen Calvin de Haan and Travis Hamonic together Tuesday against the Oilers. It was the first time this season that they played together. The decision worked as Oilers captain Connor McDavid was held off the score sheet. Hamonic probably played one of his best games of the season. de Haan has played well of late after struggling for a bit.

Johnny Boychuk will miss his third straight game due to a bruised right ankle/foot from a blocked shot on Friday in Chicago. Shane Prince flew back home after injuing his ankle Tuesday. Weight said that the forward will miss some time. Stephen Gionta will take his spot.
