The Islanders begin their "Quest for the Cup" Thursday night against the Florida Panthers in Sunrise. They may get a big piece back.

Travis Hamonic skated in full gear this weekend and could be ready to play when the series opens up. Defenseman Scott Mayfield was returned to Bridgeport this morning. Mayfield scored his first NHL goal in Saturday's OT loss to the Buffalo Sabres. They would not return Mayfield to Bridgeport if the team did not feel Hamonic was ready to go.

The defense looks healthy and ready to go. Adam Pelech played both games this weekend. Ryan Pulock had his first two assist game last night and is only getting better with each game. Marek Zidlicky is back healthy. Jack Capuano will have some decisions to make regarding the blue line.

For those waiting with anticipation, I will give my prediction later in the week.

Before I get to the podcast, I want to mention a charity event this Saturday benefitting a great cause. 11-year-old Islanders fan Olivia Hope LoRusso was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of leukemia called AML, or acute myelogenous leukemia. This Saturday, there will be a charity hockey doubleheader at the Northwell Ice Center at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. Tickets are $10, and donations can be made at the rink or by visiting http://bit.do/teamolivia.

Doors will open at 3 p.m. At 4 p.m., there will be a youth hockey game with the Junior Islanders. That will be followed at 5 p.m. by a game pitting an Islanders alumni team including Miro Satan, Brian Mullen, Radek Martinek and Steve Webb against a team that includes WFAN morning host and former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason.

There will also be raffles and a silent auction. If any money is left over after paying for Olivia’s medical treatments, it will be donated to the Leukemia Research Foundation.

Yahoo! Puck Daddy's Sean Leahy joined the podcast to preview the Islanders-Panthers series.
