For the latest Leafs updates or on Twitter
On a Friday in the middle of August when there is no news on the Toronto Maple Leafs front other than goaltender Cal Heeter being signed to an AHL contract, it seems like a good time to take a look back at last season.
The most encouraging thing about the 2016-17 campaign was the realization that the Leafs had assembled a group of young talent with top end offensive skill.
From the opening night in Ottawa to the first round playoff series against Washington, Toronto’s crop of rookies provided a level of excitement not seen since the 1990’s with Wendel Clark, Doug Gilmour and Dave Andreychuk.
The club scored 266 goals in the regular and post season, and after sorting through my notes, these have been determined to be the six best goals of the year:
Auston Matthews vs. Ottawa (10/13/16)
Nazem Kadri vs. Edmonton (11/1/16)
Mitch Marner vs. Florida (11/17/16)
Tyler Bozak vs. Minnesota (12/7/16)
Auston Matthews vs. Detroit (1/1/17)
Morgan Rielly vs. Carolina (3/11/17)
Which one would you say is the top goal of the year??
