With the buyout of Tim Gleason and the expected departure of Nikolai Kulemin, Dave Bolland, Mason Raymond and Jay McClement, the Maple Leafs are expected to be one of the busier teams on July 1 in filling out their roster.

The areas that the club will look to address in the coming days are at center(preferably a second or third line veteran, as a top line center is not available unless a trade pops up), a scoring winger to play on the second line, quality veteran depth at forward to play on the bottom six, a backup goaltender to replace James Reimer(who has requested a trade) and a veteran defenseman capable of playing with Dion Phaneuf.

There is no guarantee that GM Dave Nonis will be able to address all of these areas of need via free agency and may have to rely on a trade or two to upgrade the roster. The trade of Reimer to a Western Canada club has been the likely scenario for the Morweena, MB native for months and could happen today.

Toronto continues to try and convince defenseman Josh Gorges to waive his not-trade clause to come to the Leafs, but there is no confirmation of what the Leafs would be sending to Montreal in exchange.

Hockeybuzz will be doing a webcast beginning at 11am with Eklund and myself co-hosting and with a number of columnists joining us as guests.

The latest news regarding the Leafs will be posted to this blog, so continue to check back throughout the day for updates.
