While everyone in Edmonton was dreaming about a potential trade to draft a defenseman, the Columbus Blue Jackets were dreaming about bypassing the 3rd rated player in the draft to take the 5th rated guy. They took Pierre Luc Dubois, leaving Edmonton to take Puljujarvi.

When the Oilers failed to secure a top three pick at the draft lottery, it was rumoured Chiarelli was very disappointed. He had his eye on one of the big Finns. When the Jackets gift-wrapped Puljujarvi to Edmonton, whatever deal they might have had for a defender with that pick got put aside.

Edmonton needs a defender badly, rumours earlier had Eberle for Shattenkirk as a possibility. We wait to see what happens.

With the 6'4" 208 pound RW added to the Oilers system, there may be more of a willingness to move the 6 million dollar Eberle.

I will update this post if more occurs. We wait for a defender.
