The Vegas Golden Knights haven’t even played a game nor had a practice, so there should be some potential activity regarding trades with the National Hockey Leagues newest franchise.

The team they will be icing really has no chance to compete with some of the powerhouses of the NHL, I have a feeling they are going to get man-handled ‘Knightly’ if you see what I did there. They would be foolish not to consider improving the team in the present but also for the future.

The Leafs certainly still need some help on the back end and I for one am a fan of Shea Theodore who Vegas scooped up from the Anaheim Ducks.

Theodore is a 21 year old Canadian defenseman who shoots left. He was selected in the first round (26th) overall by the Ducks in 2013 and has potential to be a top four defenseman. Shea is pretty solid and the only reason he became available was because the Ducks have a slew of quality young defenseman and the Golden Knights were smart in grabbing him.

Personally I would like to know what it would cost to acquire Shea Theodore from Vegas. Curiosity has me wondering what a team like Vegas in year one would want in return. The Leafs have a number of forward prospects, picks and some roster players they have that would certainly help get the Golden Knights more competitive instantly.

Theodore has played a total of 53 NHL games in two seasons for the Ducks and registered 17 points. He was very effective in last year’s playoff run for the Ducks scoring 2 goals and chipping in 6 assists in 14 games. Obviously he is a player who can elevate his game and he’s still very young.

The Leafs need help on the back end, everything else is in good shape and has the team trending upwards as they head into the 2017/18 season.

Perhaps Theodore isn’t that right handed defender they need most but Shea is an offensive weapon who can rush the puck and does it with haste as he has long strides and smooth skating. His defensive game has improved each season as he continues to put up points in the AHL honing his skills.

Last season he had 20 points in 26 games and the year before 37 points in 50 games. These are quality numbers for a defenseman and Theodore is ready to play in the NHL.

What do you think the Leafs would have to pay Vegas to acquire the young defenseman and would you like to see Lamoriello inquire?

Thanks for reading, have a great weekend.
