Today’s blog will be short but sweet.

If you were in a keeper pool and you had to pick one of Nolan Patrick or Nico Hischier who would you select with your pick and why?

Nolan Patrick:

Injuries may have plagued him enough to fall from the rank 1 position to rank 2 by the time the 2017 NHL Draft took place. One thing is certain, the Flyers have had more offense than the Devils over the years, and that trend may continue for a bit longer. Giroux, Voracek, Konecny, Simmonds are who I feel will be the top points producers for the Flyers in 2017-18. Weal, Filppula and Couturier will be next but I certainly see Nolan Patrick in the mix falling somewhere between Konecny and Weal; give or take 45 points is what I’m guessing as long as he stays healthy and is given some opportunity in the top six.

Injuries can happen to any player, so hopefully for Patrick’s sake and the Flyers he’s going to be good to go for some time. I do feel however that Nolan Patrick has a higher ceiling than Nico Hischier. Just a hunch; call it what you will but that’s how I feel after seeing him play and looking at his numbers.

The Flyers even had Patrick centering Giroux and Voracek for a bit, imagine that?

Nico Hischier:

Nico was picked first overall by the Devils in the 2017 NHL Draft. The Devils took the player they felt would be best for their organization and I commend them on that, it doesn’t mean he’s a better or worse fantasy player though and that’s what counts in this fantasy blog.

Who’s going to put up better numbers this year and who’s going to put up better numbers going forward, that there is what it’s all about!

Nico will have Hall, Palmieri, Johnasson, Henrique, Zacha and eventually Zajac to play with. Of course there are centers listed here, but as we all know there may be some movement within the lines, especially on the powerplay. So Hischier could end up playing with any of these players at some point or another during the season. Both teams have decent forward depth but it’s the Flyers who have a much better offensive backend and that there is why I think with the way things are trending Nico may get more points in the first season, maybe even the second. But when we look at their numbers in five years down the road it will be Nolan Patrick being more worthy in the fantasy hockey world.

What are your thoughts?
