Remember when all those people were saying that Steve Ott should be the next Sabres captain? Well, now he is the captain, but has he lived up to expectations since he's taken on that role?
When Ott first arrived in Buffalo, I was thrilled and enjoyed seeing him play. He knew his role and could play on the lower lines and still make an impact.
Ott is expected to do much more now that he is captain and that may not be the best situation for him. The Sabres didn't have many other options for the "C" and I don't disagree with Ott getting it, but has the captaincy ruined him?
It takes a lot for a player to step up and take the full duties of a captain. It's a lot more than just a "C" on their chest.
Two months into the season, Ott has been forced into a leadership role, and it's not that he's doing a terrible job with it, but he was a better player before he received it.
He was able to go out and agitate players simply because that was his job. Buffalo is asking him to do more than that now, but maybe it's too much for him to handle.
