True North Sports and Entertainment have called a press conference for 2pm CT to make a "significant announcement" regarding the franchise.
According to reports from Winnipeg Free Press reporter Gary Lawless, True North are expected to announce that Kevin Cheveldayoff has been named general manager of the team, taking over for Rick Dudley who was not retained over the weekend.
Cheveldayoff was the general manager of the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves for 12 years, leading the team to four IHL and AHL championships before going on to become the Chicago Blackhawks' assistant general manager at the start of the 2009-10 season. That year the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup.
Before going into management, the Saskatoon native was a defenceman, taken in the first round (16th overall), by the New York Islanders in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft.
