After purging some more salary with the trade of Andrew Shaw, the Blackhawks are sifting through the bargain bin for veteran wingers.
Two names I have heard in the last 24 hours—and don't get too excited:
Jamie McGinn, Anaheim
Jiri Hudler, Florida
While rumors, really more speculation, have been around for a while that the Hawks would sign Brian Campbell, all of that seemed to be coming from fans, and the media.
For the first time yesterday, I heard that the team had an intent to talk to Campbell's agent.
However, coming off a $56 million deal originally given to him by the Blackhawks, Campbell would have to agree to a contract likely less than $1 million per year.
All that said, adding, say, McGinn and Campbell (in addition to Czech import Michal Kempny) would arguably shore up two huge problem areas for the Hawks from last season: top 6 left wing and defense.
Finally, I continue to hear that the Hawks are shopping Marcus Kruger. Although I also hear there is not a lot of activity ("all quiet") on that front.
All for now,
JJ
