Prospect Camp is underway. Early reports are as follows:
The most dominant player in camp is—no surprise—2011 1st round pick Philip Danault. Now listed at 198 pounds, a thicker-looking Danault was noticeably better than his peers 1-on-1, 2-on-2, on faceoffs, etc.
Working with new faceoff coach Yannic Perreault, Danault was noticeably better than fellow 2011 first rounder Mark McNeiil. After some instruction with Perreault, McNeill began holding his own.
Another prospect jumping out yesterday was 2013 draftee, and considered by many a sleeper selection, puck-moving Swedish defenseman Robin Norell.
6’9” Viktor Svedberg, another Swedish blueliner, reportedly has some skating ability to go with his considerable size.
Other noticeables: Garrett, Ross, Stephen Johns, who both looked “great,” Dillon Fournier and 2013 3rd rounder John Hayden. Free agent defenseman Gleb Koryagin (regrettably no relation to the Man from Uncle’s Ilya Kuryakin) and 2013 drafteee Carl Dahlstrom.
I am also hearing the Hawks are toying with the notion of moving former 3rd and 2nd round picks Shawn Lalonde and Justin Holl to wing.
More as I have it,
