ANOTHER FREE AGENT

Following the examples set with the singings of Drew Leblanc (aka LeBlahhhhh) and Antti Raanta, the Blackhawks have outbid several teams for the services of St. Lawrence University freshman Matt Carey. Carey was signed to a contract yesterday.

What makes his signing a bit more interesting is that he was allegedly swayed by the promise that he would appear in some games for Chicago this season.

Scouting reports on the 6’1”, 200 pound Carey indicate that he has great speed and a plus-shot. And that leads to the next question . . .

TEUVO TIME

If you feel a seismic, no wait, make that cosmic shift this morning, it’s because the much-heralded Teuvo Teravainen arrived in Chicago yesterday from Finland.

Teravainen was "recalled" from Jokerit along and Jeremy Morin from Rockford today—Patrick Kane went on LTIR, which means he will miss 24 days/10 games retroactive to night before last.

THE GOOD OLD HOCKEY GAME

The Carolina Hurricanes roll into town tonight for a 7PM (8 Eastern) game at the UC. The ‘Canes are .500 (30-30-9) and 12th place in the East. This is a game the Hawks should look to use to continue to ramp up and fine tune their game for the playoffs.

THE KILL COMES BACK TO LIFE

Don’t look now, but the Hawk penalty kill is up to 19th in the league—and has been exceptional for several games now, a very good sign going in to the playoffs.

All for now,

JJ
