WHAT TO LOOK FOR:
With this glorified AHL roster— and the presence of Dan Carcillo, Andrew Shaw, Brandon Bollig and John Scott in the lineup— look for fights. Maybe a lot of them. One almost has to wonder if Joel Quenneville isn’t expecting some rough stuff for one reason or another.
This is a chance for Brandon Pirri especially to prove his worth. With few offensive weapons around him, can he, as a center, create and/or convert scoring opportunities? Pirri impressed early on in camp scrimmages. But with Marcus Kruger and perhaps even Philip Danault and Mark McNeill threatening to pass him in the prospect pipeline, Pirri needs to show something.
Brandon Saad, who's looking more and more like a real steal in the second round of this year's draft, returns to his hometown tonight.
A lot of the Pens' bigger names played last night against Detroit: Malkin, Neal, Niskanen, Martin, Kunitz, Letang.
I'll try to update later with the Pens roster and any news. Thanks for reading,
JJ
