Well, you can't win them all...

After winning five straight games, the Tampa Bay Lightning (15-3-2) found themselves on the opposite side of a decisive victory with a 5-3 loss to the New York Islanders (11-6-2) at AMALIE Arena.

The Islanders were the better team right from the get-go, jumping to a 1-0 lead 51 seconds into the opening period with a goal from Andrew Ladd. Anders Lee would then make it 2-0 midway through period one with his first of two goals on the night.

New York would pile on two more goals before the Lightning added to the scoresheet in the third period. A four-goal deficit is quite challenging to erase, but the Bolts almost pulled it off in the final 20 minutes. Yanni Gourde scored the first of his two goals just over three minutes into the period and Ondrej Palat cut the Islander lead to two 13 seconds after. Gourde would find the back of the net again later in the period making it 4-3 and getting the Islanders to shake in their skates a little bit.

Unfortunately, the Bolts fell just short and John Tavares sealed the deal with an empty-netter 22 seconds left in the contest.

Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 27 of the 32 shots he faced and suffered his first regulation loss since October 7th. Tampa Bay's top line was also held without a point in the contest, which is something opposing teams have not been able to do this season.

As I mentioned before, you can't win them all. Defeat is a reality when you take to the ice for 82 games in a season. The key for the Lightning will be bouncing back and avoiding any sort of losing streak.

Tampa Bay will get a few days off before they host the Chicago Blackhawks Wednesday at AMALIE Arena. The team will then play again on Friday after Thanksgiving against the Washington Capitals.
