The video was an interesting watch. Once you get to Ansar Khan you have two straight journalists ask specifically about Berggren and Edvinsson. Yzerman confirmed there will be a call up but mentioned other names (for a forward). What was really interesting was the comments regarding Berggren. Yzerman said that both JB and Eddy were sent down and told what to work on. The interview after Ansar (Max) asked specifically about what he liked in Berggren’s game and Edvinsson’s game after the season so far. He only answered about Eddy. That may be nothing, but Yzerman will acknowledge Berggren’s development without committing.

So, we got pretty much the scenario that was talked about. No deals were too good to pass on (draft picks in the first three rounds were mentioned specifically by Yzerman) and apparently no deals offered on UFAs. When asked about free agents, it sounds like a “wait til summer” deal ( think the wait is to do with the final Cap approval). He also specifically mentioned teams acquiring depth for deep runs, noted the “arms race” of top contenders.

What does all of this mean? It means that shy of offloading Kostin who the GM said “it doesn’t make sense to pay him 2 million not to play” the team is the team. Tonight’s tilt against AZ will be interesting. A couple players gone and a win the Detroit room badly wants to grab. Will be 11-7 for the lineup (again, we all saw no callup for the trip).

Yzerman seems high on a few Grand Rapids players but the press pushing for Berggren seemed to be the only reason the player was brought up. The GM admitted the that JB has been impressive and that both he and Eddy will be NHL players.

So, who will be the callup? With the glut of defensemen still untouched it may take an injury to see Simon brought up. GR has been rolling so there may be the incentive to let that team succeed. It’s all a guess, and we’ll see how it turns out.
