After Washington’s game last night, Detroit sits outside the wild card spot again. Every game matters and nothing can be taken for granted. The team waits day by day for good news regarding Larkin. Today, Edvinsson was called up. For the bits I’ve seen him play, I like Edvinsson’s skating and edge work. Being 6’6” doesn’t hurt if you can use that reach. He has a nice shot, and has 8 goals and 21 assists on the season (tied for 5th in points). However, defensively is going to be the concern. It will be interesting to see how he meshes. I’ve seen a few clips where he can be physical. Tonight he’ll need to play a simple game. Detroit needs a ‘W’.

So, CBJ sits at the bottom of the standings. However, their last 10 games show a 5-4-1 record while Detroit has 2-8-0 staring them in the face. The Saturday win over Buffalo was proceeded by a brutal outing that saw Lyon give up 3 goals in the first period. LaLonde seems committed to the “play your way out of it” mentality (or just declines to make in game changes). Either way, the team has to take this game seriously. Columbus knows they could push Detroit further away from their post season hopes.

The team needs to find a tight defensive structure, and at this point it looks like Reimer may be the better choice in net. Lyon is struggling and the team needs confidence in their net minder. The defense has to get the puck out of the zone and avoid the easily intercepted neutral zone passes. During the stretch the inability to get the puck out of their own zone or just barely into the middle ice has created too many chances against. Walman being out isn’t great news,so it will be curious to see what kind of minutes Edvinsson plays and where.

Let me know what you hope to see, and is this a good opportunity for Eddy to dip his toes into the waters?
