Summary:

Whatever spark Lyon was giving the team in net has faded greatly. After letting in 3 first period goals it would not have been surprising to see him swapped out. Instead, LaLonde continued to show an unwillingness to make in game changes. Yes, you can easily make the case (rightfully) that Detroit was badly outshot and the net minder didn’t have tremendous support. Still, his presence isn’t settling “the troops” and more than one coach in this league would have pulled him to try and shift momentum.

With an Islander’s loss, Detroit had a chance to find a little breathing room. Instead, more of what the team saw during the last lengthy losing streak. It’s nice to see Raymond break past 20 and Fischer be rewarded with another tally, but if the point is to give the team the best opportunity, LaLonde doesn’t seem to be able to make decisions during the course of play.

Let me know your thoughts. At this point, it’s going to be a bumpy ride regardless. It just seems that the leadership would recognize that Lyon needs more of a reset. Just as offense was the priority for last year’s offseason, moving out some D and strengthening the center position should be on the front burner.

Detroit First Period goals:

Already down by one, at 15:39 Detroit got on the board. Perron used physical play in the corner of the O zone to get the puck to Raymond who ripped home his 21st of the season. 1-1

Shots: 17-4
Score: 3-1

Detroit Red Wings Second Period goals:

Detroit was getting stomped after the tying goal by Raymond. Massive shot differential and down 4-1 in the 2nd. Petry shot from the point after a faceoff win, Rasmussen collected the rebound and sent it to Fischer who was fully vertical this time. 4-2. Unfortunately Detroit gave PIttsburgh a power play and ended the period with a 3 goal deficit restored.

Shots: 26-17 PITT
Score: 5-2 PITT

Third Period Detroit goals

Detroit got back to within 2 courtesy of a power play tally by Lucas Raymond. Gostisbehere found Kane just outside of the trapezoid. #88 quickly found Lucas Raymond in front of the net and the Winger got his 22nd goal of the season on a quick release from the slot. 5-3 Pitt.

Shots: 40-28
Score: 6-3 PITT
