*updates from GM meetings

Earlier today Detroit signed one of their prospect goalies. 7th round 2019 pick Carter Gylander is expected to head to Grand Rapids. Wings prospect Trey Augustine with a fantastic season at MSU is on the radar as well.

GM meetings are being productive with a couple rule tweaks. We’ve all seen goalies dislodge the net, now it’s a penalty. Coaches can challenge delay of game now if they’re sure there was a deflection. If they lose the challenge, it’s a 5 on 3 (one penalty for delay, one for lost challenge). No word on LTIR abuse but that is heating up. Teams being a little more bold and obvious even though it’s been a problem for a while.

Summary:
It felt so familiar. Detroit down 2 goals in the first. Then, Raymond and Seider get the team tied up. Just as it looks like Detroit is in it, Marchenko scores a power play goal and that sinking feeling is back. Then, Raymond. Twice tonight the first round winger scored from Esposito’s old office. (I’d say Holmstrom but he was facing the wrong way). 13 seconds left in the third it’s all tied. “At least we get one point and some curly fries”.

Overtime was showtime. A split second after Kane scores the net comes off and there is a second of everyone holding their collective breath. The words came through, “we have a good goal”. Jenner made a play that veterans make. Shove the opposition into the net and knock it out of place. You stop the play and can reset. Luckily #88 was just a little faster.

So, Detroit is back in the Wild Card spot as the back and forth continues. With the Islanders coming up on the schedule it’s going to be a rough ride.

Raymond, Kane and Seider all played parts in the win. Raymond is starting to find an edge that he’s going to need and his agent is probably the 2nd happiest person over Raymond’s performance tonight.

Enjoy this one, 2 goals in the span of 1 minute of playing time. 13 seconds at the end of the third, 46 seconds into OT. This is one of those nights that makes hockey fans. Whichever young kid got their first game in tonight, they’re probably hooked in now.

Let me know your thoughts. Has Raymond turned a corner in his development? Hopefully you enjoyed this and Kane has turned out to be an absolute boost for the team. From not being sure he could play to a point per game is a fairly significant shift.

Detroit First Period goals:

No Detroit goals in the first

Shots: 20-6
Score: 2-0 CBJ

Detroit Red Wings Second Period goals:

Detroit finally got on the board during a power play. Raymond gets his 23rd of the year after some nice passing work as Fabbri (from Kane) found the winger in the slot. If there was a 3rd assist, Seider kept the puck alive at the line. 2:57 2-1 CBJ

A minute an a half later Seider ripped a shot from the blue line and it was kicked in by a Jackets defenseman. Score tied 2-2. Chiarot and Rasmussen w/assists.

Shots: 28-15
Score: 2-2

Third Period Detroit goals

With 13 seconds left and yours truly preparing to write another loss, Lucas Raymond stepped up again. Ghost gets the puck to Kane, Patrick Kane shot and the rebound ended up on Raymond’s stick in the slot. Raymond’s 24th and a tie game.

Shots: 35-25 CBJ
Score: 2-2

Overtime:

The broadcast booth was enthralled just to get the overtime point. However, Patrick Kane decided for another glimpse of “showtime”. Kane took a pass from Debrincat and found daylight short side on his off wing and won the game just 46 seconds into OT. Seider with 2nd assist.

Shots: 35-27 CBJ
Score: 4-3 DET
